  • Visits from the Afterlife: The Truth about Hauntings, Spirits, and Reunions with Lost Loved Ones

Sylvia Browne showed us how to get in touch with departed loved ones in The Other Side and Back and Life on The Other Side. In Visits from the Afterlife, Browne journeys even deeper into The Other Side. She describes visitations with ghosts and travels to haunted homes and ships possessed by the otherworldly forces who walk their deserted decks. Through these spiritual visits, she explains the reasons behind many of the world's most bizarre and mysterious hauntings.

I've already gone back and listened to this one a couple of times! This has been one of Sylvia's best audible books! Having someone else narrate was a good move on Sylvia's part. I highly recommend this one to anyone that believes in the spirit visits as well as anyone that "wants" to believe!

Why we think it’s a great listen: It’s a story that most people know, told here in an unforgettable way – an audio masterpiece that rivals the best thrillers, thanks to Capote genre-defining words and Brick’s subtle but powerful characterizations. On November 15, 1959, in the small town of Holcomb, Kansas, four members of the Clutter family were savagely murdered by blasts from a shotgun held a few inches from their faces. There was no apparent motive for the crime, and there were almost no clues.

    "Amazing Story"
    Overall

Unlike the movie - the book was the account of what happened prior to, during and after those gruesome murders. Very well written and narrated!

There are shelves of memoirs about overcoming the death of a parent, childhood abuse, rape, drug addiction, miscarriage, alcoholism, hustling, gangbanging, near-death injuries, drug dealing, prostitution, or homelessness. Cupcake Brown survived all these things before she'd even turned 20.

Kim says: "Amazing , Brutal, Inspiring"

    Overall

This was one of those books that you don't want to end. Cupcake Brown is a remarkable woman with an AMAZING story! I had not heard her story before I read the book. Her story so intrigued me that I did additional research on the web to follow up on her success post the completion of the book. I would HIGHLY recommend all young women to read!

  • Here's Johnny!: My Memories of Johnny Carson, The Tonight Show, and 40 Years of Friendship

Brilliant in front of the camera but shy in person, Johnny Carson seldom gave interviews. But no one knew him better than Ed McMahon, Carson's personal friend and showbiz sidekick for almost 40 years. Now, with Johnny's blessings before he died, McMahon can finally share all the stories that only he knows.

Christopher says: "What was Johnny Carson like? Let Ed tell you..."
    "Only Okay"
    Overall

I'm not sure why actor/authors think that because they are successful on screen/stage that they can successfully narrate a book! Ed McMahon would have done better if he had allowed someone else to do the reading. He was doing just that....reading and it didn't sound natural. There were some slow spots in the book that I literally fast forwarded through. All in all there were interesting parts and insight to Johnny Carson that I had not heard before.

Meet Rose and Ruby: sisters, best friends, confidantes, and conjoined twins. Since their birth, Rose and Ruby Darlen have been known simply as "the girls". They make friends, fall in love, have jobs, love their parents, and follow their dreams. But the Darlens are special. Now nearing their 30th birthday, they are history's oldest craniopagus twins, joined at the head by a pot the size of a bread plate.

Barbara says: "Terrific material, great presentation:"
    "Interesting and Honest"
    Overall

This book was so interesting due to the nature of the sisters plight. The read was able to relate the "norm" connection between sisters as well as the special circumstances the sisters had to face together. Great book!

As she closes the door on her stunningly successful television show, Rosie O' Donnell opens her heart to share the amazing experience that changed her life forever. As she always seems to be Rosie put it all out there for the public to see. She never seems to candy coat who she is. Rosie did a good job of narrating. Quick listen. Wasn't ready for it to be over.

  • A Million Little Pieces

    Story

By the time James Frey enters a drug and alcohol treatment facility, he has so thoroughly ravaged his body that the doctors are shocked he is still alive. Inside the clinic, he is surrounded by patients as troubled as he: a judge, a mobster, a former world-champion boxer, and a fragile former prostitute. To James, their friendship and advice seem stronger and truer than the clinic's droning dogma of How to Recover.

    Heath says: "Great Book"
    "Disapppointed"
    Overall

The book seemed to go in many directions at one time. Although some of that would be understandable due to the authors issues - I kept waiting for it to get to the point. The only message I took away from the book is the obvious - Drugs will screw up your life.

Best-selling author Nevada Barr delights contemporary mystery fans with novels like Deep South and Blood Lure. In Bittersweet, she departs the mystery genre for a touching story of hardship, perseverance, and love in the old West.

    M. McGuire says: "Good, but not what I expected"
    "Wonderfully Written!"

Nevada Barr's ability to describe the scenery as well as the womens thoughts and feelings are impecable! Although I still "want more" I can also find an ending that is acceptable in my own mind. Great book!

The story line was lacking....I kept expecting it to get better. I finally gave up with three or four chapters to go. I found it frustrating.
