While I listened to the whole book, I can't say it was worth the time or the credit. At best, it could be regarded as a way to "clean the palate" between two intense reads. Enough said.

In Blind Justice, mystery abounds in London as Hester Monk, wife of Thames River Police Commander William Monk, questions Abel Taft - a charismatic preacher accused of extortion. Taft appears guilty as sin, but his trial explodes when a star witness drops a bombshell that has the Monks scrambling to save their dear friend Oliver Rathbone.

    Story

As always, an excellent story told by an excellent narrator - Davina Porter is one of my top five favorites - and only one problem. The end of this book sounds like and feels like the end of the series. I pray my instincts are totally off base. It is never pleasant to see the end of a leading character's career, though, Ms. Perry has allowed for career changes in earlier books in this series which broadened the scope of experience for those characters. I will be waiting for the next book in her Monk series and hoping she will write many more.

You Slay Me is a lusty romance novel with amusing supernatural undercurrents. When courier Aisling Grey is dispatched to Paris to deliver a priceless dragon statue to a rich and eccentric female collector, she finds the intended recipient the apparent victim of a demonic ritual. And that's just the beginning of Aisling's discoveries.

Justin and Libby Denbe have the kind of life you’d find in the pages of a glossy magazine: A beautiful 14-year-old daughter. A gorgeous brownstone on a tree-lined street in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood. A great marriage, admired by all. A perfect life. When investigator Tessa Leone arrives at the crime scene in the foyer of the Denbes’ home, she finds scuff marks on the floor and a million tiny pieces of bright green Taser confetti. The family appears to have been abducted.

I've thoroughly enjoyed all Ms. Gardner's books and like the fact that she maintains a character connection between each book. I also like the fact that the "good guy" isn't always good just as the "bad guy" isn't always bad. Justice might prevail but not always from a legal standpoint and this same justice is invariably just as short-sighted as the human exercising it.

I will try to be patient for her next book.

ASBOs may be the pride and joy of New Labour, but they don't cut much ice with Horace Rumpole - he takes the old-fashioned view that if anyone is going to be threatened with a restriction of their liberty then some form of legal proceeding ought to be gone through first. When one of the Timson children is given an ASBO for playing football in the street, Rumpole soon realizes something fishy is going on.

Rumpole is my most favorite non-conformist. He never takes himself or his colleagues too seriously. Rumpole's sense of humor is high-browed yet universal so anytime I get a chance to hear one of his cases, I take it.

Tony, a former street kid, is now a production assistant on a TV series about a vampire detective. But the special effects wizard is actually a real wizard who's come from another dimension-along with a dangerous foe. And Tony will definitely need the help of vampire Henry Fitzroy if he, his friend-and the world-are going to stand any chance of surviving this invasion.

The Canadian-based TV show, Blood Ties was very appealing to me. I kinda fell in love with Henry Fitzroy (the actor is beautiful to gaze at) but then this series has him sexually involved with one male "friend" he turned/sired some centuries ago. This has fouled up my fantasy life. I'll fight to the death for others' right to write/publish/read what they wish but I really don't like such surprises.

American pathologist Nora Gavin fled to Ireland three years ago, hoping that distance from home would bring her peace. Though she threw herself into the study of bog bodies and the mysteries of their circumstances, she was ultimately led back to the one mystery she was unable to solve: the murder of her sister, Trona. Nora cant move forward until she goes backback to her home, to the scene of the crime, to the source of her nightmares and her deepest regrets.

I love Elly Griffiths' "Ruth Galloway" series. "Nora Gavin" is a similar character and Ms. Hart's writing style bares some resemblance to Ms. Griffiths'. This book appeared to be listed as the first in the series but I suspect it is actually the second as I'm enjoying HAUNTED GROUND which is setting up for chapters in FALSE MERMAID. Since I have to wait a while for the next in the Galloway series, Ms Harts' series will do nicely.

It is Halloween night, and the local museum in King's Lynn is preparing for an unusual event - the opening of a coffin containing the bones of a medieval bishop. But when Ruth Galloway arrives to supervise, she finds the museum's curator lying dead beside the coffin. It is only a matter of time before she and DI Nelson cross paths once more, as he is called in to investigate. Soon the museum's wealthy owner lies dead in his stables, too. These two deaths could be from natural causes - but Nelson isn't convinced.

I love Ms. Griffith's writing style. She continually moves the listener through the story by maintaining a present tense narrative. She has also given us a gifted heroine who is not gorgeous or self-assured, but who has a fulfilling life in each stage she grows through. Ruth Galloway is quiet, reticent, caring and respectful of her friends and associates who, in turn, are quick to help her with her investigations and sometimes her personal life. I've enjoyed all 4 books in the series and am now required to wait for the 5th to be published.

Robert McCammon brings the hero of his previous novel, Matthew Corbett, to 18th-century New York, where a killer wields a bloody and terrifying power over a bustling city carving out its identity - and over Matthew's own uncertain destiny.

The unsolved murder of a respected doctor has sent ripples of fear throughout a city teeming with life and noise and commerce. Who snuffed out the good man's life with the slash of a blade on a midnight street? The local printmaster has labeled the fiend "the Masker," adding fuel to a volatile mystery...

Incredible....a complex, complicated, intelligent mystery set in early 18th century New York with a detective who is insightful, humble and willing to learn. The story is exciting, especially toward the end where we meet some of the nastiest criminal minds ever to exist on paper or in real life. There is very little comic relief here which tends to remind a listener that the Puritans had landed only 80 years earlier and the revolutionary war was 70+ years away.
Reading/listening to this book is as close to NYC as I ever want to be, yet I look forward to my next visit.....but only in this format.
