"Great book - Lousy price."
Love this book, a great continuation of the series. But allas it may be one of the last audio book's I buy from Audible. If the 2 credit price becomes standard for popular books it will actually be cheaper to get them from I-tunes. Wake up Audible I buy from you to save money, and I renew for 24 credits at least 3 times a year.
"Monster Cleche's International"
An ok read that use's every "monster" cleche' in the book. (pun intended)
This is a good pass the time book, but if your looking for something original and new keep looking.
"Beg's to be abridged."
This is the first book/books that have ever made me want to stick an icepick in my ear just to make it stop. Especialy the last few chapters I was actually screaming every time there was another plot twist or overblown explanation, I just wanted it to end.
"My ear's are bleeding."
I have never heard a book narrated so badly. John Lee reads science fiction as if it were 1920s detective noir. Which wouldnt be so bad if all of his character voices didnt sound almost exactly the same.
I do have to give Mr. Lee some credit, he's not working with a masterpiece of literary gold here.
I just finished the first part (6:32:10) and Im sitting here wondering if listening to the rest is a good idea. Having read or listened to all of Alastair Reynolds books this is by far the last on my list.
Because.
It starts in 1959 Paris, with no explanation of preceding events to put things in context. It almost feels like youve actually started with part 2. I actually had to stop and check.
The story jumps between characters so much you'll need Dramamine to keep from getting seasick, and when the characters change you don't realize it until a name is spoken BECAUSE THEY ALL SOUND THE SAME. (ARRRGGGGHHHH!!! )
Ok Im going to stop before my blood pressure go's up any more. Lol. Needless to say I wish I had purchased the e-book or actual paper version, maybe then it would be enjoyable, but I can not recommend the audible version.
Do yourself a favor and listen to the sample before you buy this book.
"Meh! Save your credit."
The story line is good, but it reads like a collection of short stories. Instead of picking a few plot points and expanding on them the author packs in so many that the story becomes quite dull and under-developed.
"k-so this book is frickin hilarious!"
I literaly wet myself I was laughing so hard.
Mr Moore has outdone himself, and I dont think any other narrater than Susan Bennett could have done this reading justice.
Listen to this one on the weekend. If your at work or in the car your going to get some strange looks when you burst out laughing.
"Slightly disapointing and long winded"
I realy liked Doomsday Book, and loved To say nothing of the dog. Blackout though leaves me wanting - wanting the story line to come together, wanting to get away from the narrators over dramatic reading style, wanting an abridged version of this book. I mean do you really need three story lines that boil down to "Im lost in the past and cant get home" Be warned while this is a good story it is massivly over detailed yet incompleat.
