  • Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 21 mins)
    • By Marcus Luttrell, Patrick Robinson
    • Narrated By Kevin Collins
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Four US Navy SEALS departed one clear night in early July, 2005 for the mountainous Afghanistan-Pakistan border for a reconnaissance mission. Their task was to document the activity of an al Qaeda leader rumored to have a small army in a Taliban stronghold. Five days later, only one of those Navy SEALS made it out alive. This is the story of the only survivor of Operation Redwing, SEAL team leader Marcus Luttrell, and the extraordinary firefight that led to the largest loss of life in American Navy SEAL history.

Mike says: "Enthralling and authentic story of valor in combat"
"Excellent book and narration!! Highly recommended"
Where does Lone Survivor rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is one of the best books I've ever had the pleasure of listening to or read. I'd heard a very brief introduction of Marcus' experience listening to American Sniper (another book that I really enjoyed) and wanted to know the rest of his/this story. I found the book to be enlightening, entertaining, and solemn at the same time. The commitment of the SEALs to their fellow warriors and their country is an inspiration to us all.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lone Survivor?

It's hard to pick an individual scene I found memorable... the beginning of the book, which covers the training and team formation is essential to set the stage for the rest of the book. Without that, the passion of the individuals and the team isn't readily understood. Once you get into the battle though, when the bullets started flying, the whole rest of the book was something that I'll never forget.

Have you listened to any of Kevin Collins’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first book I've heard that was narrated by Kevin Collins. Truth be told, I almost didn't "buy" this book because of the negative comments about his narration. Boy, were those comments wrong - and I'm glad I ignored them!! Kevin did a great job and I wouldn't hesitate to listen to any other book he narrates. He clearly conveyed the literal intent of each chapter and captured the emotional content - I readily understood what Marcus, his team (actually Mike's), and those around them were going through. This book was written exceptionally well AND the narration was excellent too.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Nearing the end of the battle of Murphy's ridge when Danny, Mike, and Axe died. You knew it was going to happen, but hearing the full story, and of their heroism was was just amazing. I am in awe of these guys, what they do, how they do it, and what they stand for.
