Moby-Dick by Herman Melville is a classic of American and world literature. Written in 1851, this is the incredible story of the crazed captain Ahab who, consumed by his desire for revenge, drives his crew to scour the oceans of the world for the fearsome white whale, Moby Dick. It soon becomes clear that Ahab will stop at nothing and is prepared to risk everything, his ship, his crew members, and his own life. Herman Melville (1819 - 1891) was an American novelist short story writer, essayist and poet.

Way too long winded, wish I had bought the abridged version instead of this one.

As well as penning some of the most popular detective fiction, Conan Doyle also wrote thrilling adventure stories. ‘Rodney Stone’ is a combination of both. Nelson, Beau Brummell, Fox and King George III himself appear in a tale at the heart of which is, as one character says, “a pretty conspiracy - a criminal, an actress and a prize-fighter, all playing their parts”.

The story was OK, I listened to the whole thing, but I never really got drawn into the story. Nowhere near as entertaining as Holmes is.

In 1931, at the age of 21, Douglas Bader was the golden boy of the RAF. Excelling in everything he did he represented the Royal Air Force in aerobatics displays, played rugby for Harlequins, and was tipped to be the next England fly half. But one afternoon in December all his ambitions came to an abrupt end when he crashed his plane doing a particularly difficult and illegal aerobatic trick. His injuries were so bad that surgeons were forced to amputate both his legs to save his life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

YES. I both laughed and cried. Bader has a great sense of humor - his dry understated British description of situations was most humorous, but the descriptions of some of his efforts to help other amputees was so touching it brought tears to my eyes.

    Any additional comments?

Amazing fortitude - to overcome the loss of both legs and fly again and maintain a sense of humor. WOW!! Great story. PS I would recommend this to anyone who has lost a limb - or is feeling sorry for themselves.

As she watches Sam gear up for Chinas Olympic culinary competition by planning the banquet of a lifetime, she begins to see past the cuisines artistry to glimpse its coherent expression of Chinese civilization.

For the first time, listeners to James Bond's adventures will see Agent 007 as he appears through the eyes of a beautiful woman...a woman who, in the midst of brutality and terror, recognizes Bond for what he is: a handsome and appealing killer. But only a killer can help her now!

Not the best one in the Bond series, but if you want to listen to the entire series you may as well include this one too. Story is from point of view of a woman who is helped /loved by James Bond. It does drag on a bit before bond ever comes into the story.

Twice Claire has used an ancient stone circle to travel back to the 18th century. The first time she found love with a Scottish warrior but had to return to the 1940s to save their unborn child. The second time, 20 years later, she reunited with her lost love but had to leave behind the daughter that he would never see. Now Brianna, from her 1960s vantage point, has found a disturbing obituary and will risk everything in an attempt to change history.

English magicians were once the wonder of the known world, with fairy servants at their beck and call; they could command winds, mountains, and woods. But by the early 1800s they have long since lost the ability to perform magic. They can only write long, dull papers about it, while fairy servants are nothing but a fading memory.

November 1944: Army airmen set out in a B-24 bomber on what should have been an easy mission off the Borneo coast. Instead they found themselves unexpectedly facing a Japanese fleet: and were shot down. When they cut themselves loose from their parachutes, they were scattered across the island's mountainous interior. Then a group of loincloth-wearing natives silently materialized out of the jungle. Would these Dayak tribesmen turn the starving airmen over to the hostile Japanese occupiers?
