As well as penning some of the most popular detective fiction, Conan Doyle also wrote thrilling adventure stories. ‘Rodney Stone’ is a combination of both. Nelson, Beau Brummell, Fox and King George III himself appear in a tale at the heart of which is, as one character says, “a pretty conspiracy - a criminal, an actress and a prize-fighter, all playing their parts”.

His injuries were so bad that surgeons were forced to amputate both his legs to save his life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

YES. I both laughed and cried. Bader has a great sense of humor - his dry understated British description of situations was most humorous, but the descriptions of some of his efforts to help other amputees was so touching it brought tears to my eyes.

Any additional comments?

Amazing fortitude - to overcome the loss of both legs and fly again and maintain a sense of humor. WOW!! Great story. PS I would recommend this to anyone who has lost a limb - or is feeling sorry for themselves.

Fun story, enjoyable listen. Wish this had been published before my visit to China as it contains very interesting insight into China and Chinese Food. Only one caution, listening to this story may make you hungry :-)
