Why we think it’s a great listen: A masterpiece like none other, Brooks’ powerful performance of Haley’s words has been known to leave listeners in tears. It begins with a birth in an African village in 1750, and ends two centuries later at a funeral in Arkansas. And in that time span, an unforgettable cast of men, women, and children come to life, many of them based on the people from Alex Haley's own family tree.

Years ago, I watched this story when it came out as a TV series. The book was so much more... more drama, more insight into what one human is capable of doing to another. The detail was so much more, Some of the discriptions and details were so vivid, I wanted to stop listening but couldn't.
The movie just didn't get it right, once into the book... around chapter 3 I was totally hooked!
It's a long story, and I took me almost a week of listening (hrs at a time) to get through it.
I'll never say my time was wasted!
    I highly recommend this book!

Internationally best-selling author Francine Rivers—winner of a Christy Award and the ECPA Gold Medallion—crafts a riveting tale of mother/daughter bonds stretching across decades. Strong-willed Marta leaves Switzerland early in the 20th century and settles in California. Though Marta loves her eldest daughter Hildie, they often clash as they attempt to find their places in the world.

What did you love best about Her Mother’s Hope?

There wasn't anything I loved "best," the entire book was increadible, we couldn't put it down!
My husband and I both listened to it together, and it stayed with us for days after we'd finished. It was a source of many conversations. After a few days, we went back and re-listened to different parts and caught things that we'd missed on the 1st go around.
This is a book that we'll definately revisit!!

At 27, having fled an abusive marriage with little more than her kids and the clothes on her back, Ivy Peterman figures she has nowhere to go but up. Quaint, historic New Bern, Connecticut, seems as good a place as any to start afresh. With a part-time job at Cobbled Court Quilts and budding friendships, Ivy feels hopeful for the first time in ages.

What did you like best about this story?

Even though this book featured 2 different main charactors, I felt I already knew them from the minor roles they played in book one.
The story line from book 1 continues... it's just the different lives of the main charactors that's changed the flavour of it.
I absolutely loved this book and can't wait to start the next one in the series!

Marie Bostwick weaves the unforgettable story of four very different women whose paths cross, changing their lives forever. It’s a long way from Fort Worth, Texas, to New Bern, Connecticut, yet it only takes a day in the charming Yankee town to make Evelyn Dixon realize she’s found her new home. The abrupt end of her marriage was Evelyn’s wake-up call to get busy chasing her dream of opening a quilt shop. Finding a storefront is easy enough; starting a new life isn’t....

Would you consider the audio edition of A Single Thread to be better than the print version?

I didn't read the hard copy but I've really enjoyed this audio version, enough that I'll be buying the next book in the series.

This is a christian fiction, something I didn't realize when I made the purchase. However... I didn't find it "preachy" but rather added to the charactor's personality. Her faith is faulty and she 2nd guesses many of her life choices, but in the end, it's her faith that pulls her through the hurdles in her life.

The story felt real and is totally believeable. I was sorry that it had to end. I can't wait to start the next book in this series!

While New Bern, Connecticut, lies under a blanket of snow, Cobbled Court Quilts remains a cozy haven for its owner, Evelyn Dixon, and her friends. Evelyn relishes winter’s slower pace—besides, Internet sales are hopping, thanks to her son Garrett’s efforts. In addition to helping out at the shop, Garrett has also been patiently waiting for his girlfriend, Liza, to finish art school in New York City.

Would you listen to A Thread So Thin again? Why?

Yes, I'll probably listen to the entire series sometime down the road.

Have you listened to any of Pam Ward and Julia Whelan ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Each of these narrators play one of the 2 main charactors, and do a magnificent job I must say! The personalities of each really shine through.

    Any additional comments?

I've enjoyed all the Cobble Court books. I've already listened to all 5 and enjoyed each of them. I love that all the charactors from the previous books are still here, although their roles play minor parts, they are still an important part of the main charactors lives.

You could read this book as a stand alone and not wonder who or what role each of the charactors play in the story, but it's better to read them as a series starting with book 1.
Marie Bostwick has done a wonderful job of keeping everything streamline and without gaps or repeatetive discriptions.

From New York Times best-selling author Marie Bostwick comes a beautiful novel of sisterhood lost and found - and of the ways we create the rich tapestries that encompass the past and the future. The economic downturn has hit New Bern, Connecticut, and Tessa Woodruff’s herbal apothecary shop, For the Love of Lavender, is suffering. So is her once-happy 34-year marriage to Lee. They’d given up everything to come back to New Bern from Boston and start their business, but now they’re wondering if they made the right decision.

Have you listened to any of Hillary Huber and Bernadette Dunne ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've listened to all of the books in this series, and enjoyed them all. It is a "christian" fiction, which I wasn't aware of when I bought the 1st book. I'm not a religious person but I thought the charactor's faith seemed to flow well with the story. It was a part of telling who the charactor was and the motivations for their actions.

    Any additional comments?

Even though each book centers on 2 new charactors, all the charactors from the previous books play a minor role. It's all about real life situations and believable solutions.
