  • Star Wars (Dramatized)

    • ORIGINAL (5 hrs and 56 mins)
    • By George Lucas, Brian Daley (adaptation)
    • Narrated By Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels
    Overall

    Story
    (747)

This landmark production, perhaps the most ambitious radio project ever attempted, began when Star Wars creator George Lucas donated the story rights to an NPR affiliate. Writer Brian Daley adapted the film's highly visual script to the special demands and unique possibilities of radio, creating a more richly textured tale with greater emphasis on character development.

"Superb FX, voices not so appealing"
    Overall

Only a three star rating here... the sound effects are superb, direct from the big screen (X-Wings, TIES, lightsabres, droids etc.). However... the characters voices just didn't always work (for me at least). I was the most disappointed in Solo and Leia. Star Wars was THE movie I grew up with, so maybe I am a little prejudiced - If you're a Star Wars fan, the best thing to do is to check for yourself !

A master at combining heart-stopping suspense and scientific intrigue, New York Times best-selling author James Rollins returns with a thrilling adventure like no other--a shocking story of cruel genetic experiments done in the name of national security and, most disturbing of all, tied to a secret history of the Book of Genesis.

    Dawitski says: "Very Enjoyable"
"Typecast characters, painful narration, weak plot"
    Overall

Everybody???s taste is different nevertheless I was disappointed in this book. The main characters I found to be dull and typecast : ???Jack Menard??? a superman-with-a-disturbed-past type and ???Lorna Polk??? irritating and flat. Descriptions of weapons and military equipment where often inaccurate, their terminal effects like something out of a B grade movie. The plot was also a stretch of the imagination??? Unfortunately, I also must agree with other reviewers regarding the narration, the attempt at Cajun accents didn???t meet with much success, I would have to rate the narrator as ???painful at times???.

  • The Hound of Death

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 49 mins)

A collection of Agatha Christie's stories of the macabre and the occult, from the story "The Red Signal", in which an omen from "the other side" unmasks an insane killer, to "The Hound of Death", in which a convent blows up - and on the remaining wall is left a black powder mark, in the shape of a great dog. The other spine-chilling mysteries are "The Fourth Man", "The Gipsy", and "The Lamp".

With my apologies to Miss Christie and Mr. Lee - I can only truthfully rate this book with three stars. At the beginning the chapters are fresh and interesting, as the book progresses some themes repeat themselves, as does the style of narration. For full enjoyment, I would recommend splitting the book up along a longer time period, otherwise... boredom is lurking on the horizon :-(

What turns out to be one of the most interesting cases of the great detective's career begins when a country doctor visits Holmes and Watson in London. He brings with him the legend of the hound and news of the sudden death of Sir Charles Baskerville. Sir Charles' heir, Henry, is arriving from America and the doctor is afraid for the young man's life. Holmes despatches Dr Watson to accompany them back to the dark and somber estate in the Devon moor.

I grew up in the U.K. whilst radio plays were still keeping their own against television... and games consoles didn't exist :-)This story is very good, although I didn't find the dramatization quite as pleasing as compared to other Sherlock Holmes books I've downloaded. However, still an entertaining few hours !

I grew up in the U.K. whilst radio plays were still keeping their own against television... and games consoles didn't exist :-) I really enjoyed the audio book as it brought back memories of tea and biscuits in the kitchen whilst listening to the radio. The stories are excellent, as is the dramatization. Highly recommended !

15 thriller masters. 1 masterful thriller! Former war crimes investigator Harold Middleton possesses a previously unknown score by Frederic Chopin. But he is unaware that, within it's handwritten notes, lies a secret that now threatens the lives of thousands of Americans. As he races from Poland to the U.S. to uncover the mystery of the manuscript, Middleton will be accused of murder, pursued by federal agents, and targeted by assassins.

    BSquared67 says: "A rollicking thriller"
    "An excellent freebie !"

This book was included as a bonus with my sign-up... and it remains to date one of the best books I've downloaded ! The idea of all the differant authors was weird at first, buy the differances in writing style whilst keeping a storyline going really worked ! A little slow at the beginning, give yourself just a few chapters more... then you'll be hooked :-)
