What an astoundingly good epic read.
As a prospective writer I found this book amazing for resting and relaxing as well as a how to guide of how to write time lapses, logically and coherently in about 50 different ways.
The characters show real growth and in such an epic read it is a continual growth process not a onetime thing.
This is really one of the best ever epic fantasy books I have read in a very long list of books in this genre, I will most assuredly recommend this to all fantasy genre lovers.
I “read” this on audio and the mastery of the narrator . . . was worthy of a review and another 5 * review all on its own.
A really fresh take on Vampires.
Regarding the audio narrator, the woman did a brilliant job in giving our heroin a playful tone which I am not 100% sure would not have sounded childish if I read the book. Good job. Now for the story.
First of all, I applaud the author for having a heroin that is perfectly imperfect. Having a limp added more to this story than any fresh or new story line ever could.
I loved the fact that our heroin is not perfect.
The one fanged vampire and the general vampire nemesis and the love of our heroin's life was fresh, new and exciting.
My complaints, the again insta-love that we all go through with all YA and NA books. Also our heroin forgets about her mom and brother awfully quick once she meets the HOT - physically, sexually and his blood is boiling - love of her life.
The story is however saved by the fresh approach, the limp present and good writing.
As far as NA vampire stories go....this one is well worth the read.

Although well written and narrated by an expert this book out of context lacked the hook to motivate me to read more.
Only now that I have signed on do I realize it is part of a tv show I have not watched.
I suspect followers of the show will get far more from this I did.
Loved the theme of the book, it is one of love.
The story of a father with twins is touching and moving and inspirational!
Some of the scenes are thigh slapping funny and the generational sub theme was funnto read.
The narrator did an exceptional job with this book making the characters pop and come alive.
The narrator has a crisp clear voice and his pronunciation is good. However, he needs a bit more practice in doing a range of voices!
So the story. An epic fantasy where each pillar is a mark of a well rounded, well educated man!
Ahm so what I hear you say? Well see in this fantasy a pillar also marks the point where the main protagonist shows real growth. I really like this. The internal battle is presented in short bursts and never slows down the action. In the end the action and the growth follows the same theme while the plot is action driven.
A good read. Get yourself a copy.
Usually I would be talking about the authors world building etc at this stage. This story-- I cannot. It is short and sweet and fluff! Fun fast reading even if it is predictable.
The narrator's voice, grated at times but that is due, I think, due to her reading with a Texas twang. Usually I love a Texas twang but I found that less is more. All in all a fun read.
This audio book production with less than 17 minutes play time is sure to enchant and calm children down.
It is also certain that children will be learning new words and the narrator did a brilliant job with the pronunciation of her words adding to the over all effect.
Age appropriate and a good way for children to learn while having fun.
Love the way the narrator pronounces each word. I think it is especially important when dealing with children. This is a short book and a fun one with enough of a story to keep the little one's asking to hear it again. I think that were I a parent I would have bought the accompanying Kindle book and have the children follow along with the story.
All in all, a really age appropriate book.
Once I started on this my first though was....hmm, it is short at least. By the end I figured I was done in. I adored this. The narrator with his calm even pacing had me captivated. The character driven novel had me glued to my seat and YES I will read 'Listen" to more by this author.
This short novella was absolutely outstanding.
What an amazing talent this author has. I reread The Shining to refresh my memory and the first thing that popped into my head after I finished the book was that it held far less of the shock element than it did when I read it at 15, instead it held the wonder of a well crafter work of art.
Then I started on Dr Sleep. Not OVERLY enthusiastic since I always say…. I like and much prefer 'OLD SCHOOL SK". To my delight the book was marvelous. Truly even better, more layered and the plot and theme running like a double helix throughout the book.
So it did NOT scare me enough to fear to switch off my light at night. However, it kept me listening and listening for hours at a time sometimes going back a chapter if something distracted me. A brilliantly written thriller by a true master of the genre. I am sure SK will entice tons of new 15 years old and make them fear to turn off their light at night.
At the end of the audio production SK himself left a note that exactly says, only far better, what I came to realize while rereading The Shining. We grow up. We change. The stories that scared us might not scare us anymore.
About the narrator…Will Patton. This man is a master of his craft much as SK is. He gave a tenderness to some of the main protagonists that made my heart melt and ache for them. Others was hard edged and others still was totally disinterested. All though were unique and his pacing and dialogue was brilliant.
Lets start with the narrator whom did an amazing job of giving every character a " voice". I was at no time ever wondering who was engaged in a dialogue with whom.
The narrator also set an already ambience filled story with an added debt that further served to make this a very enjoyable read!
Now for the story. The characters both the main good guys and possibly bad guys were well developed and properly motivated. The premise is amazing and the author did a bang up job of fluffing out even the ghosts in the book! That takes real dedication.
Ok so my title. I liked the premise. Liked the ambience but as a non romance lover it was the romance in this book that hooked me from the start.
Really a good read for any lovers of this genre!
