  • The Women of the Cousins' War: The Duchess, the Queen and the King's Mother

In her essay on Jacquetta, Philippa Gregory uses original documents, archaeology and histories of myth and witchcraft to create the first-ever biography of the young duchess who was to survive two reigns and two wars to become the first lady at two rival courts. David Baldwin, established author on the Wars of the Roses, tells the story of Elizabeth Woodville, the first commoner to marry a king of England for love, and Michael Jones, fellow of the Royal Historical Society, writes of Margaret Beaufort, the almost-unknown matriarch of the House of Tudor. The Women of the Cousins’ War will appeal to all.

This book is best for people who've already read her other books - or like me have read them all. It's a terrific conversation about the differences between a novel and a history book. I wish that more writer's of Gregory's abilities wrote history books.

On a rainy November day, police detectives Pia Kirchhoff and Oliver von Bodenstein are summoned to a mysterious traffic accident: a woman has fallen from a pedestrian bridge onto a car driving underneath. According to a witness, the woman may have been pushed. The investigation leads Pia and Oliver to a small village, and the home of the victim, Rita Cramer. On a September evening eleven years earlier, two seventeen-year-old girls vanished from the village without a trace.

What other book might you compare Snow White Must Die to and why?

Great book for fans of Girl With a Dragon Tatoo series. Similar genre - less creepy.

Kevin Mitnick was the most elusive computer break-in artist in history. He accessed computers and networks at the world’s biggest companies—and however fast the authorities were, Mitnick was faster, sprinting through phone switches, computer systems, and cellular networks. He spent years skipping through cyberspace, always three steps ahead and labeled unstoppable.

For someone who enjoys reading technical materials, this book would be great. For someone who reads to relax and get away from technical materials - the story is very interesting - but you can skip all but the first few chapters and the last 2 chapters.

In a time long forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons off balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. As the cold returns, sinister forces are massing beyond the protective wall of the kingdom of Winterfell. To the south, the king's powers are failing, with his most trusted advisor mysteriously dead and enemies emerging from the throne's shadow.

    Story

This book likely is a great story. As a book to listen to - it's tough. There are a lot of characters and a lot of voices. I needed a cheat sheet of characters to keep the story straight. While it's 33 hours of narration, if you want to follow the story and all the characters you'll be repeating sections of the book. It takes a lot longer to fully ingest this story.

I eventually gave up on the listen and read the paperbook. I'll go back and listen again though.
