It was whispered all through London society that he was a murderer, that he'd spent his youth in an asylum and was not to be trusted - especially with a lady. Any woman caught in his presence was immediately ruined. Yet Beth found herself inexorably drawn to the Scottish lord whose hint of a brogue wrapped around her like silk and whose touch could draw her into a world of ecstasy.

While Ian MacKenzie is not your typical romance novel hero, his uniqueness makes him likeable and his devotion and loyalty to his love interest makes this a great book!
The characters in this book grow on you due to their flaws and weaknesses, they make them real and you end up rooting for them and becoming consumed by the story. This is a great start to an excellent series. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

After listening to the first book in this series, I wanted that enjoyment to continue; however, I was hesitant to purchase this book as the main character in the first book is not the foremost character. But, I was pleasantly surprised at how the author weaved together the previous characters into this story and added new elements to those characters and their family. This was a great follow up to the first book and I will be purchasing the rest of the series to see what happens with this very unusual family. I highly recommend listening to this book and the first and being open minded to their flawed and imperfect personalities; this makes them very likeable as the story progresses.

A renowned rake, Cameron Mackenzie doesn't care if Ainsley Douglas has a virtuous excuse for sneaking around his bedchamber. He only cares that she's at his mercy. One kiss at a time, he plans to seduce her. But what starts out as a lusty diversion may break Cam's own rules.

    Story

I was hesitant to listen to this series as the cover suggests a trashy romance novel status. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how likeable the characters are. These are not your typical "perfect" specimens of romance novel heroes, they are men that are imperfect and flawed. This allows the reader to connect with these men and see how they struggle with wanting to maintain their manhood and status yet loving a woman in a way that was deemed most "unmanly" in that time period. Their fierce loyalty to their women and their love is what makes the series so attractive. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book and this series without reservation.

This is a complex story with beautiful detail. The description in this book allows the reader to feel what each character is feeling and become personally invested in this book. The reading is done in such a way that it stops sounding like a reading and becomes a conduit for the listener to "enter" the story. For fans of Diana Gabaldon, there is a nod to our most beloved characters from her series. Listen to the end, you won't be disappointed.

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

This is an amazing story by the King. Unique concept and characters only he could think up. While the story is so riveting, you don't want to stop listening, the narrator can grind on your nerves at times. His efforts to create voices does not quite live up to the standard of the story. Overall, it is worth the $.

The Main and Hazard families clash on and off the Civil War’s battlefields as they grapple with the violent realities of a divided nation. America's master storyteller continues his reign with Love and War, a story steeped in passion and betrayal. With the Confederate and Union armies furiously fighting, the once-steadfast bond between the Main and Hazard families continues to be tested. From opposite sides of the conflict, they face heartache and triumph on the frontlines as they fight for the future of the nation and their loved ones.

    Story

While it is a good follow up and worth the listen, there are such heartbreaking moments that alter the course of the whole story. It is hard to imagine how the author will continue the story when the main elements have altered completely. This story almost completely ties up all the original stories that one could speculate that this should have been the last book in the story.
