For Tess Monaghan, the unsolved murder of a young federal prosecutor is nothing more than a theoretical problem, one of several cases to be deconstructed in her new gig as a consultant to the local newspaper. But it becomes all too tangible when her boyfriend brings home a young street kid who doesn't even realize he holds an important key to the man's death.

Kitty says: "I don't know what it is..."
    "Not Elizabeth George..."
    Overall

I liked Tess Monaghan, and I liked this story, However, the leading character wasn't as compelling as I would have liked her to be. Story line good and fast paced. I probably won't listen to another one, though.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

YES! The best so far. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and even though Penny ended it with a glimmer of hope Inspector Gemache might be back, I am absolutely satisfied if this is the last of the series.

What does Ralph Cosham bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He IS Inspector Gemache. I couldn't imagine any other reader being nearly as good.

NYPD Detective Michael Bennett is about to take on the most sinister challenge of his career. The nation has fallen into mourning after the unexpected death of a beloved former first lady, and the most powerful people in the world gather in New York for her funeral. Then the inconceivable occurs. Billionaires, politicians, and superstars of every kind are suddenly trapped within one man's brilliant and cold-blooded scenario.

    James says: "Classic good Patterson"
    "OK for a long drive"
    Overall

Just enough action to keep awake, but a somewhat disappointing thriller. Predictable. I'd choose something else if you want to be on the edge of your seat or after a big lunch.
