  • Deeply Odd: Odd Thomas, Book 6

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 35 mins)
    • By Dean Koontz
    • Narrated By David Aaron Baker

    Story
    (1281)

How do you make sure a crime that hasn’t happened yet, never does? That’s the critical question facing Odd Thomas, the young man with a unique ability to commune with restless spirits and help them find justice and peace. But this time, it’s the living who desperately need Odd on their side. Three helpless innocents will be brutally executed unless Odd can intervene in time. Who the potential victims are and where they can be found remain a mystery. The only thing Odd knows for sure is who the killer will be: the homicidal stranger who tried to shoot him dead in a small-town parking lot.

What could Dean Koontz have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Great characters, but it's like he's keeping us in suspense for the next book and we just started this one. I kept falling asleep waiting for the plot to tie together and become suspenseful, but it never does. Action without a compelling plot doesn't create suspense. Why talk all the time about his dead sweetheart if it never ties back into the story. This could have been his best Odd book.

I will say that if he takes the characters and unanswered questions he's created, and ties them together into the great story he's capable of, his next book could be more than awesome.

What about David Aaron Baker’s performance did you like?

He is one of my favorite narrators. He is the reason I finished this book, that, and the fact that I'm not ready to give up on Odd Thomas yet.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I would see a movie based on Odd Thomas is they tied up all the loose ends they open in the movie.

    Any additional comments?

I love this series. This book did it harm, but, it is redeemable. But if Mr. Koontz is tired of it he should poor his heart into one more book tying up the loose ends.

  • George Carlin Reads to You: An Audio Collection Including Grammy Winners 'Braindroppings' and 'Napalm & Silly Putty'

If one George Carlin audio is funny, then two are funnier and three must be funniest, right? That's our thinking behind this new collection. t's a HighBridge library of laugh-out-loud, award-winning recordings featuring George himself performing many of his best bits.

Carlin is one of my favorite comedians. His airline flight attendant skit (not in this book) is one of favorites of any comedian. In this book when in the middle of his stories, I laughed. But the introduction, a slow crawl of his snobby pet peeves turned me off, and I never recovered.

  • Running Blind: Jack Reacher, Book 4

Across the country women are being murdered by a killer who leaves no evidence, no fatal wounds, no signs of struggle, and no clues to a motive. They are, truly, perfect crimes. In fact, the only thing that links the victims is the man they all knew: Jack Reacher.

If you could sum up Running Blind in three words, what would they be?

    hits the spot

    Any additional comments?

There's something in this violent, smart, simple, vigilantly-under-control character (Reacher) that hits the right balance of righteousness, adventure, mystery, and must importantly, reality. Reachers ramblings again reel us in and keep us wondering whether this time he's gone too far this time. Best read from first book on, I'm on the 7th and have no reason to stop.
