The book, yes. This audio book, no.
This is the most flat narration I have ever heard. I love the book and have read it numerous times, but could not stand to listen to even the first chapter! So sad!
Although the story is nice, the recording isn't. Distracting to hear background noise - music, a car, etc. The reader didn't break between sections. It would take me a sentence or two before I realized she had shifted to the next section or character.
Phyllida Nash did a great job portraying the various voices of the characters. I really like the speech culture of the people of the island.
I have often wished that there were ratings for books. If there were, I would rate this one PG -13. It was not graphic, but did touch on some situations I would not share with a child or teen. I was a bit nervous when I read the first situation that more would follow that were graphic. Not so. About as much as I am willing to read though.
