I saw the Kubrick film 'Barry Lyndon' growing up and always enjoyed the smart narration between scenes. Especially the line at the ending "we are all the same in the end". You'll probably have to listen to the early chapters twice-over to start understanding the prose easily, but after decompressing it's very enjoyable. My favorite chapters so far are on Minden & the Military. Strong anti-war coming from a victorian author, go figure.
Johnathan Keeble is an excellent reader here. Will be keeping an eye out for his other productions.
Walter Dixon, like the pro that he is, gives his A-game here. Hazen's writing is most interesting and compelling, they both really work out well together. Should definitely do another audiobook in the near future IMHO.
Epic, biblicalish, wide-in-scope, easy, clear and on-target.
"AH-KAH-REE-AH-SS".... No, "A-CHAR-EEYAH-SS".... Yes.
It takes but a few seconds on Youtube to get this pronunciation down correctly, which leads me to suspect how hastily this recording was produced (no offense).
Firstly, I will admit that I purchase many audiobooks just because Walter Dixon is the reader/narrator of them. He adds much quality, I am a great fan of his. But there is also something that should be taken in advisement... if Dixon read "Mein Kampf" it would sound somewhat reasonable & well-balanced. Of course Ehrman's book is far from that! But if you carefully listen, you will note the numerous fallacial arguments occurring within every 10 minute span, which is something common to both (sadly this is not an exaggeration). I purchased the ebook when it first came out, got half-ways thru, abandoned it out of some shock and surprise at the scholarly fall-off. So when the audiobook launched I decided to give it another chance. Ehrman didn't use the opportunity to correct many of the errors that have been exposed so far.
Please WD, I hope never to hear you read the "Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion" or such... you're too dangerous!
