"Too much disconnected information."
Don't think I would.
Never quite got to a point to pull my interest. Each time I got into the story, it wandered away.
Long, long descriptions.
No.
Very disappointed.
"I want to live in this fantasy world."
I listened to A Storm of Swords after I listened to Game of Thrones because I had to find out what happened to each of the characters. I became so engrossed that I ordered the other books and listened to them.
I journeyed with the characters and lived in the vivid descriptions of the scenes and the story kept me engrossed. The entire adventure is well written, very exciting and when I finished the fourth book, I spent days pondering the fates of several of the characters as if they were living beings.
This will be in my top ten of my favorite books of all time. I had to listen to all of the books and wish there was a fifth book. Love them.
"A story of nature versus nurture"
Yes I would and I I did listen to parts more than once to better understand the details of the Russian history. I was very interested in how people react to treatment and surroundings during their formative years. It questions why some become bitter and self serving while others survive and learn from childhood experiences. It seems that Catherine was forged into a strong, wise woman while her husband was badly damaged and could not overcome the challenges of his early life.
Catherine was my favorite character as she learned from each challenge she faced and overcame. She was able to control her emotions and behavior and observe rationally. In the end she was able to use all that she learned and did impact the country positively. I did feel that Elizabeth groomed Catherine to rule after she became aware of the failings of her nephew. Catherine did not become bitter as she struggled to survive the hardships but rather became a very wise person with conviction and certainly courage. She was a strong, intelligent woman who earned respect and ruled well.
I just enjoy listening to stories being told. I don't know if I would have felt any different if I had been reading the book.
There was not a moment but I was moved by Catherine overcoming her treatment and becoming a great ruler in her own right and ruling with intelligence and grace. Her attempting to free the serfs and seeing that it was wrong showed why she was a great ruler.
I listened to the book once but stopped many times and went back to earlier passages and listened carefully. It was a history brought to life and a story well told. The author was able to make you feel her as a living, breathing person living her life as best she could.
Rather than dwelling upon the unfairness or cruelty, Catherine filed it away and moved on to what she could affect positively. She knew the difference between the things she could change and the things she had to accept and could not change at the time. When her time came to rule, she was indeed a competent and able ruler in all ways. Was she born to rule or did she learn to rule as she faced her childhood challenges?
"Just the Facts...told simply w/out blame"
No excuses by Prosecution for not guilty verdict. It appeared to be the telling a story of a sad event and nobody won. Although he commented on his feelings about Jose Baez, he did not dwell on him. A good read.
Can't think of any.
There are no favorite scenes for me. Just sadness for the family, especially the parents who grew this child. They birthed, raised a monster and the family lives with her actions every day.
Reading the description of the parents of Casey on the stand struggling to help her and yet knowing she was responsible for a death. I know they knew she did it. But they did not want to send her away.
I do believe that the state did not offer the proper charges and do not feel the death penalty was needed. I think the death penalty was the biggest factor in the innocent verdict.
This book was a report of the events as seen through Jeff's eyes.
I believe we always fear and hate events like this where there is NO apparent reason for this behavior except evil and/or narcissim . We do not want people to go unpunished if they commit a horrible crime of any kind.....but especially a helpless baby.
The very fact that this a child can disappear for 31 days and no one is held accountable for this is very, very sad.
I don't see how Casey Anthony can contribute anything to society. She did not do the right thing, nor did her family in the death of this baby.
I don't think we should ever lock up the jury again. I think it creates a small society where people become friends and there are leaders and followers. I believe it creates too close a bond with the other jury members.
I honestly believe that when given such a challenge people can listen to the facts and make a decision. I believe people take justice seriously and will make every effort to judge based on the facts they have to rely upon as stated by the court.
The charges are very important in murder cases. I believe the death penalty should not have been on the table.
