I didn't love this book although I really wanted to. The author seemed more interested in the general history of the time than in his main story line. There were far too many segues and non-sequitors for my liking, and there was something in the tone that made me think the author strongly disliked his subjects. At the end of the day this is too long to be worth picking up as a filler and probably not worth reading for fun.
I love gothic horror, Frankenstein, and especially Kenneth Branagh. His narration here is perfect. Having read Frankenstein, in full, multiple times, my only regret is that this is the abridged version. There is so much of the story missing that I felt a bit dissatisfied after listening. That being said I think this version is perfect for anyone who is looking to read Frankenstein for the first time, or for younger listeners not ready for the full story.
I enjoyed this first installment of the series. The main character is witty and snarky and I enjoyed the story. This is an easy read and a great summer time filler.
I enjoy gritty true crime narratives and histories. This was excellent. It is rich in detail and the narration was fantastic. Well worth a listen to anyone who enjoys the genre.
I found this book interesting, but lacking something. I wanted more adventure, more depth, more resolution. The narration was fantastic and it was an easy listen, but the story itself could have had more depth to it.
I have enjoyed these books. I like the narration and the snarky wit of the main characters. This is not a life changing series by any means, but it is a fun and easy time filler.
I found this extremely interesting, touching and well read. I found myself completely drawn into the story. I listed to this in one sitting. Highly recommend.
I'm not a huge fan of sci-fi but after hearing so much about this book I decided to give it a shot. I'm glad I did. This was very well performed by Mr. Porter. I enjoyed the characters and found myself sucked into the story. An easy, fun summer listen.
This is brilliant. The author wrote an incredibly funny story which will touch anyone who has experience with children. The choice of narrator is nothing short of inspired.
I admit that I bought this largely because I loved the cover illustration. It was interesting and well read. It's worth a read if you are interested in the subject. Ironically, it's a bit preachy (and I say that largely agreeing with the author). Still, it's worth a once over.
This was well read but largely forgettable. I finished it perhaps a week ago, and honestly couldn't tell you much about it.
