"Save your money."
A better story ?
If Robert Ludlum wrote this he was just passing time. Weak plot, someone tried to cash in on the first novel without coming up with a fresh story.
Flat delivery of lines. Of course he had nothing to work with.
The evil bad guys. And most of the heroes.
If you want to listen to alot of
"Craig Johnson does it again."
Another great story from craig johnson. Between the story and the wonderful narration from George Guidall this is another keeper.
"Great story, bad narration."
Sure. It's a good book.
Not sure.
He's not very good.
The book is a wonderful read, in print. I have read this several times since Peter Straub wrote it and have always enjoyed it.
I thought I would try out the spoken book while I drive, I drive a truck long haul and it helps the time go by.
The narrator does O.K. when he does a male voice but the female voices are absurd. Little girl, old women or young they all sound as if they're already dead.
"Having a hard time with this one."
First off let me say I have just finished the first half of this book but I feel I have a few things I can say. This is the third time the narrator has been switched, the first one was great and Audible should has stuck with him in my opinion but that is just personal taste.
What drives me to write this is how wordy this book seems to be, I really don't need to get a complete description of every surface, color of the sky or set of clothes a person is wearing.
It seems that every change of scene requires five minutes of talk to just get to to a little action.
Also the evolution of some characters seems a bit strange, Mandy Pownall has gone from what seemed like a office worker to a spy / hit woman and now seems to be on her own to do as she pleases.
I really enjoyed the first of this series but I think this book could use some trimming and and still be a good book.
"Too much missing"
This is one of the best books I have read. That being said this version is terrible. The abridged version cuts out so much of the story I felt like it was not the same book. If you want to read a good story buy the paperback.
"Hard listen"
This book may not be as bad as I think but it was so hard to listen to the narration. The narrator had one voice that sounded okay, the rest where just plain bad. I bought two of these and regret the purchase.
"Hard listen"
First I want to say this is a great book, in print! I spend my days driving and love to listen to books on my Ipod.
The first thing I noticed was the narrator talks like he is dictating a long letter. I do not think he ever takes a breath and he talks very fast.
Sometimes he moves from one chapter to the next without a pause and I get lost. I also find it hard to distinguse between characters because his voice never seems to change.
These things may not bother some people but this is a very long book and the narrator of a book can either make or break a book.
"waste"
If you want to throw your money away buy this book, otherwise keep looking. The names misleading-I thought the book would be fun from the discription but found the only thing in ruin was my time. Boring, drawn out and inane. I drive truck for a living and listen to alot of books on tape and this was one of the worst I have listened to. No ruined citys or temples, no ghosts demons or even monsters. I wont give away the storyline but buy this at your own risk.
