"DO NOT BUY - WORST OF STORE"
I wish i could get my credit back or a refund or something because this is a terrible book and necessarily a worse audiobook.
After liking Mr. Mezrich's take on the MIT Math Club in 21 as well as his caricature of Zuckerberg in his facebook profile I thought I'd give his latest a try. This was a mistake.
I am no literary critic nor do I hold advance degrees in English or the like but I do have a college degree which I think entitles me to say this: THIS IS TERRIBLE WRITING. It is boring, overly flourished in places with details that do not benefit nor add to the story and often times detract from the narrative because the reader gets lost thinking...wtf. Terrible writing aside it wouldn't be much even is the writing was on the Pynchon level. ITS A BORING STORY in book for...it would be a great story for The New Yorker written of course by one of their staff writers.
I feel I've trashed the book more than I should have above so I'll move over to Casey Affleck's narrative/audiobook artist skills. In short: he has none, stick to acting if thats what you are good at. He is mono tonal, whisperish, slow paced and sounds completely disinterested in the story. He might as well have been reading pages from the United States Code. I had to listen to much of the book on 2x speed - Mr. Affleck put so much space between each word and sentence that it made the book sound like it was intended for people whose first language was not english or perhaps an ESL class.
DON'T WASTE YOUR CREDIT....please
"A worthwhile use of a credit - easy & entertaining"
This book was a fun listen and a worthwhile use of a credit. The stories are entertaining - if not always told with a cohesive narrative - and for someone like me who generally sticks to nonfiction/history it was a great easy listen/distraction. I liked that Mr. Tomsky narrated the book himself as the flourishes he adds to his own stories greatly improve the listen. Don't buy it if you're expecting Dave Eggers or David Sedaris type essays - also don't buy it if you're looking for honest to goodness travel tips. I thought the publishers pushing the book as having travel/hotel upgrade tips was disingenuous - Mr. Tomsky does use 'tips' as gateways to tell a story the 'insider tip' he offers is almost always give a big tip.
In short - well narrated, funny, easy listening....would be great for a long plane flight.
"fantastic book, by and large captivating"
This is a great book and a great listen - especially for those who are interested in Spanish or English History. The author covers a good deal of Queen Isabella of Spain's later years which is gripping and this serves as the lead in to the story of the sister queens. Anyone who was a fan of Showtimes' show The Tudors will be interested in this book I think! I loved the book however, it was an effort to listen to the last few minutes as the pace of the story slowed. Well worth the credit!
"great quick car trip listening - best of audible!"
I cannot say enough good things about the Audiobooks in the Intellectual Devotional Series including this one: Revive Your Mind. Mr. Wyman & Ms. Litchfield share the narration duties alternating each lesson. This is not annoying (as i thought it might be) but rather keeps the book from being monotone and tune-out-able. I also must note that I really love both Wyman & Litchfield and seeing their names on other audiobooks influences my buying decision.
Narration dispensed with the Devotional is a collection of 3-7 minute lessons that are designed for listening to at 1 lesson per day with each day having its own theme. I cannot tell you how many times a topic will come up that I thought I knew about and 7 minutes later I'm gobsmacked to find I was either wrong or only knew a micron of the story. I listen to more than one per day but what is great about the way they break it up is this: it makes it the 100% BEST AUDIOBOOK AROUND to listen to whilst running errands! No waiting in your car to find a natural pause point.
WELL WORTH IT! My only complaint - there aren't any new ones! I wish they would come out with more...I've tried other similar series (don't know much about... etc) and they pale in comparison!
"BEST OF STORE! Great for Errands!"

"Fantastic! Exceedingly well paced! super narration"
A Great book for anyone interested in espionage, the cia, the nsa or any of the like but not only for just them...This is a great book for anyone who enjoyed a well paced book with a fascinating subject matter wrapped up with a great, attention keeping narration. Its well worth a credit!
"Authoritative Read of THE Google Book"
Mr. Levy wrote THE definitive book about google and his insights are fascinating. It is also clear that he was given access to individuals and documents that had previously not been available to other authors. The resulting story is a balanced book not just a love note to Google.
The Narration by Mr. Ganser is pitch perfect! He is authoritative and clear. Even when the book drags just a bit Mr. Ganser's narration keeps you involved and listening.
"A Great Story with captivating narration"
I wish this book would have been assigned in my college Microbiology class - maybe I would have liked it better. The story is quite interesting weaving the tale of sulfa's development with a keen historical prospective - WWI and WWII for example. I also very much enjoyed Mr. Hoye's narration (as I have in all of his audiobooks) - it is well paced, clear and captivating. My mind didn't wander listening so I didn't have to jump back as often. Well worth the credit!
