Gunslinger Caden Miller's compadres are becoming a bit too domesticated for his liking. So he's off to Kansas territory to carve out a living and a space of his own - alone, just the way he likes it. Maddie O'Hare has been drawn to Caden ever since she escaped to the Hell's Eight compound from the brothel where she was born and raised. And she's not ready to let him go so easily…until she's captured by his new neighbors.

Would you try another book from Sarah McCarty and/or Paula Hoffman?

I would definitely buy another Sarah McCarty book, but only because I've read/listened to other books by her and know she can do much better than this. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be eager to purchase another book read by the same narrator... She made the characters sound like children.

Would you ever listen to anything by Sarah McCarty again?

    Yes

    Any additional comments?

This book was all sorts of odd to me. Seems to me Maddie shouldn't be marrying married at all, but instead checking into some western residential facility for those considered'touched' in the head. From the start I had the hardest time figuring out how anyone could get to know her enough to fall in love with her... She barely spends time in reality, constantly 'slipping away'.

Tess used to spend more hours than she'd care to admit playing her favorite computer game, using the nickname Angel. Angel disappeared from their nightly games, it nearly destroyed Arion. He threw himself into work and women, but he can't help knowing the one-night stands will never compare to the angel who haunts his dreams. At first, when she shows up soaking wet and scared-shitless on his doorstep, he thinks his prayers have been answered. But the more Arion tries to keep Angel close, the more her fear drives her away.

"Enough angst to fill mosh-pits" is a quote from the book that basically sums up the entire book. Overall I liked the book, but if angst were sugar I'd be in a diabetic coma. Because it was good enough for me to want to hear the ending I put up with it, but all the angst had me thinking "when will this end" very often.

Where does Hidden Away rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book is easily in the top five, if not number 1, of my top audiobooks. I'm a graduate student, so I don't have much time put keep my nose and anything outside of text books. I started buying audio books because since I can't read while driving, or on the bus (because the constant shaking of the book gives me a headache) so I thought listening to audio books would help me get my fiction fix. So in general I just listen on the road, then turn it off until my next outing... NOT WITH THIS ONE. Its 11+ hours long and I've finished it in two days. I listen to it while at home because I'm so stuck on whats gonna happen next. I've got a new fave author to add to my list.

Which character – as performed by Harry Berkeley – was your favorite?

    Garrett, lol hands down.

Oh and I must also say Harry Berkeley is a VERY TALENTED reader. I generally steer clear of audio books red by men because I'm to distracted by how they attempt and usually fail (in my opinion) to portray the female characters. Harry did great, I'd listen to a book read by him any day.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It moved me, I didn't laugh or cry (Francine Rivers is the only author who has ever made me cry) but I felt bonded to the characters like I was in the drama with them, trying to get out alive and in love.

    Any additional comments?

    Worth every dollar or credit.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The stories summary alluded to danger and excitement...there was none. The one moment of "danger" was lugahable, in a boring way. I was Shocked, cause I like this author. Also I was very disturbed by the way the book condoned abuse.
've been reading romance since before I was 11 (yes I know, inappropriate, but a far as every one else was concerened a little girl with her noise stuck in a book its more important than actually knowing what she is reading and learning from the books). Anyway, that said, I understand the whole strong man appeal of romance, but this guy was beyond controlling, and threatened to do her physical harm on more than one occasion. Not just expressed a desire to do harm, like many romance books imply, but actually threatens it, and she submits and finds it desirable. I've read a lot of romance, ( I'm 27 now) but this one was one of the most disturbing I've ever read.

What was most disappointing about Iris Johansen’s story?

    All of it

Would you listen to another book narrated by Christina Traister?

    Yeah

I feel like book readers are like verbal actors, in order for the story to be great the read has to portray all of the characters emotions and characteristics.i feel this reader did not do the book justice. She read the whole book in what felt like a semi whisper. Even the parts where the book clearly says Someone shouted or got frustrated she read it in a soft meek voice. It annoyed me so much.

What made the experience of listening to Talkeetna Twines the most enjoyable?

the imagery was amazing. that's not usually what grabs my attention in a book on audio, but it really lent to the greatness of the story.

What other book might you compare Talkeetna Twines to and why?

there are not any books that I would compare it too. This is the first time I've really listened to a story told like this, and while I really liked it, it did not resemble much of what I am used to listening to.

What about Stephanie Brush’s performance did you like?

She had a sort of hypnotic voice, it was very relaxing to listen to, but didn't make me want to fall asleep.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, but that's because there are not any books this long that I would want to listen to in one sitting.

    Any additional comments?

It was a great listen. I would recommend it to anyone that doesn't mind a somewhat slower story, but a very relaxing and sweet story of love and strength of heart.

What disappointed you about Cold as Ice?

the book was just dry, boring, and repetitive. The killer keeps threatening to kill her but you soon learn he's all talk, and after a while it becomes really boring to hear him say the same thing. Also, how a romance bloomed out of this story makes no sense to me. I like to listen to audio books to pass the time on the train to and from work, but this book doesn't help me pass the time, it just makes me wish it was over.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Not sure

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

take more time to develop the romance. One minute there was nothing, and the next they were sleeping together while still talking about escaping each other and murder. it made no sense to me.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    disappointment

    Any additional comments?

    the accents were bothersome too.
