In the dark winter of 1917, as World War I was deadlocked, Britain knew that Europe could be saved only if the United States joined the war. But President Wilson remained unshakable in his neutrality. Then, with a single stroke, the tool to propel America into the war came into a quiet British office. One of countless messages intercepted by the crack team of British decoders, the Zimmermann telegram was a top-secret message from Berlin inviting Mexico to join Japan in an invasion of the United States.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

A terrific book. Lots of istory I didn't know and some biting irony and humor.

On Midsummer's Eve, three role-playing teens dressed in 18th-century garb are shot in a secluded Swedish meadow. When one of Inspector Kurt Wallander's most trusted colleagues, someone whose help he hoped to rely on to solve the crime, also turns up dead, Wallander knows the murders are related. But with his only clue a picture of a woman no one in Sweden seems to know, he can't begin to imagine how.

What was most disappointing about Henning Mankell’s story?

Plodding repetitious plot and most of the characters have no unique or memorable traits. The only one I felt added character was the forensic expert.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

He tried his best with shallow characters.

What character would you cut from One Step Behind?

    Besides Wallender?
