This novel is a story inspired from John Grisham's own childhood in Arkansas. The narrator is a farm boy named Luke Chandler, age seven, who lives in the cotton fields with his family in a little house that's never been painted. The Chandlers farm 80 acres, and when the cotton is ready they hire a truckload of Mexicans and a family from the Ozarks to help harvest it. For six weeks they pick cotton, battle the heat, the rain, the fatigue, and sometimes, each other.

Would you try another book from John Grisham and/or Peter Marinker?

I really like John Grisham's mystery series. This is completely different and I wouldn't let it influence future reading of John Grisham. I bought this on sale without realising how unique it was. I didn't mind it but found it slow in places. I'd bought it for my husband to listen to but didn't suggest it to him in the end.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Both the narration and the story were slow paced. But the plot and characters were interesting so it wasn't hard to stay with it to the end. And then I definitely wondered how life panned out for the characters after i left them.

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

Where does Outlander rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

Outlander is a very special listening experience. It's the start of a massive adventure and you can feel that from the very beginning. All I can say is I couldn't imagine being hooked for pretty well all of a 40 plus hour book. And I certainly couldn't imagine wanting to re-listen only a few months later. But I did. And the second reading was even better! There is so much to these books there's always something else to notice the next time.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I enjoyed the development of all of the major characters.

What does Davina Porter bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

Davina does an amazing job with all of the characters: male, female, old, young, english, scottish... What she also does is helps you to enjoy every word. When I read these books myself I skip through too much in anticipation of the next plot.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

These books are very moving at different times - they inspire the gamut of emotions.

    Any additional comments?

If you're wondering why these books are rated so often and so highly there's only one way to find out. Give Outlander a go for yourself. I've not particularly into historical novels or time travel - but I'm hooked! It's all about the adventures and the characters.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

This was worth finishing but I probably wouldn't recommend it to a friend. It was a bit confusing as the author tried to weave a web and then tie it off neatly at all its ends.

Was The Rose Garden worth the listening time?

It was worth the listening time, but I wouldn't go back for more. The characters were likeable though, and I found myself wondering what happened after the story ended.

What made the experience of listening to Virgin River the most enjoyable?

I liked the story and I appreciated the sub plots that were setting up further stories in a series. It was easy to listen to but still kept you hooked.

What did you like best about this story?

A few days after finishing it I keep running the characters through my head speculating on future stories.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I like Therese's accent. I've heard better jobs of differentiating between characters and a woman handling men's voice but she's easy to listen to and enhances the listening experience.

There isn't much fun in the sun when a billionaire real estate tycoon is found murdered on the Tilt-a-Whirl at a seedy seaside amusement park in the otherwise quiet summer tourist town of Sea Haven. John Ceepak, a former MP just back from Iraq, has just joined the Sea Haven police department. The job offer came from an old Army buddy who hoped to give Ceepak at least a summer's worth of rest and relaxation to help him forget the horrors of war. Instead, Ceepak will head up the murder investigation.

What made the experience of listening to Indulgence in Death the most enjoyable?

My husband and I both love this series - so much so that we are making ourselves listen to other things to prolong the experience as we get closer to caught up!! The stories are intriguing and keep you listening. The time on long car trips just zooms by. Susan Ericksen really brings them to life. This is one instance where listening is far better than reading a printed book.

What did you like best about this story?

Continuation of the ongoing 'In Death' theme.

Which character ??? as performed by Susan Ericksen ??? was your favorite?

Susan Ericksen brings all of the main characters to life. She does an amazing job of differentiating them. I particularly like her Peabody.

    Any additional comments?

If you haven't read an 'In death' book before - start from the beginning!
