As Enola searches for the missing Lady Blanchefleur del Campo, she discovers that her brother Sherlock is just as diligently searching for Enola herself! Sherlock and Enola must solve a triple mystery: What has happened to their mother? And to Lady Blanchefleur? And what does either have to do with their brother, Mycroft?

This was either a wonderful conclusion to the series or a really good book in I hope a continually ongoing series. Enola is growing up and in fact one thinks perhaps her two brilliant brothers may be as well.
Set in Victorian England all of these stories have been educational as well as entertaining, telling a bit about the harsh realities of life in that time. The social injustice and the extremes of poverty suffered by so many of that era.
Layered over it all is a cracking good tale with lots of danger and suspense. The narration is perfect for the character and it all blends so well it carries you along, until suddenly it is sadly over until the next book comes out.
So much is wrapped up in this one that you are tempted to fear there is no more to write for these characters, but the door is left open a crack. Could it be? oh I hope so.

I don't publicly advertise that I'm a mage, but I don't exactly hide it either, and one of the odd things I've learnt over the years is just how much you can get away with if you're blatant enough. Hide something behind smoke and mirrors and make people work to find it, and they'll tear the place down looking for what's there. Alex Verus is a diviner who can see probable futures-a talent that's gotten him out of many a tough scrape. But this time, he may be in over his head. Alex was once apprenticed to a Dark mage, and in his service he did a lot of things he isn't proud of.

Which is fine by me because between the two, if the authors give up food and TV and any personal life- they might be able to keep up with my appetite. Good stories, action flows and makes sense, and really good matches on narration. I am really enjoying both series. Hey put down that fork and get back to work.....these things aren't going to write themselves.

"My name is Mike Ross and I'm a Ferryman - like in the Greek myth. I didn't ask for, or really want, the job, but I'm trying to make the best of it. Most ghosts are okay and just need a little help to get where they need to go. Unfortunately, there are lots of exceptions, like power-mad psychopaths, spirits still trying to fight battles long since lost, and the worst of the lot - the Skinwalkers. They live vicariously by possessing people and controlling them like puppet masters. Then they toss them aside when they've outlived their usefulness."

If the river Styx was suddenly moved to a back road in suburbia and no one was giving Charon a golden tip (or anything but a hard time) you would have this working man's story. You just gotta feel for the guy. Funny and fast paced, an easy listen. Like walking into school naked on the day of the exam, this poor guy has to figure out whats going on and why the universe is messing with him; find some pants and win the girl. It is a lighthearted look at being on the working class bottom looking up. With ghosts. Not a unique concept but well done. Like Chinese I want more an hour later......and as I am very picky about having the narration fit the flavor of the character, this one has just the right sarcastic overtone. A good match.

This time last year, I could go weeks without seeing another mage. In mage society I was an unknown and, all in all, that was how I liked it. It’s hard to say what changed. Whatever it was, I got involved in the magical world again and started getting myself a reputation.

I am always pleased to find an author that can keep things moving with a minimum of background explanation to set up the action. It makes the movement of the story feel more real and natural. You will find a very close relationship of the flavor of these stories to the Dresden files. Which is not a bad thing. Both authors weave a good adventure. Fun magical who-done-its are a great guilty pleasure, and I look forward to more courses in the feast. The narrator for this series is a very good match and gives just the right feel.

She was expected to accept her role as her father's successor whether or not her cat was up to the task of leading the clan. She disagreed. Now she's less than a step ahead of the hunters, bone-tired, cold, and living hand-to-mouth in the city of Haven.

There are a lot of Vampire/weir series out now and there is nothing in this story that will stand out as really eye opening or unique. That being said this author consistently delivers a well crafted story. It moves along at a good pace and I enjoyed the tale. I will probably keep reading the series. I found the narration a little flat, but since I am very picky about narration I would say still a good match to the character. A good rainy day read.

Old Ms. McMartin is definitely dead. Now her crumbling Victorian mansion lies vacant. When 11-year-old Olive and her dippy mathematician parents move in, she knows there’s something odd about the place—not least the walls covered in strange antique paintings.

This story moves right along with never a dull moment. From opening to ending children, of all ages will be afraid of the dark, and brave and triumph against evil. Some bits may be a bit too scary for younger bedtimes. But all in all, a ripping good story that does not dumb or talk down, with all the traditional bits- plus cats. The narration fits perfectly with the character.

No one loves and understands animals like the eccentric 19th century physician Dr. Dolittle, who masters animal language with the help of Polynesia the parrot. After his human patients desert him, the kind-hearted doctor finds his calling in practicing animal medicine, and his fame spreads far and wide. When a terrible epidemic breaks out among monkeys in Africa, Dr. Dolittle sets out to save them, accompanied by some of his favorite pets.

This is a children's tale that should have been culturally updated before being done in audio book form. It contains thoughts and words that I am not comfortable hearing. I certainly would not recommend it for any child unless you want to spend a lot of time explaining some very unfortunate turns of phrase.

I really enjoy her stories and her characters. These books are often on sale, only because I think they are shorter than most books. However they are little nuggets of enjoyment and the stories are quite complete, you are not left feeling as though there should be more to complete the thought. More of the supernatural fluff that I love for an afternoon of escapism. Only a few hours long so you still have time to clean out the garage. I find these feel a bit like the "first grave on the right" series if you want a flavor comparison.

If you enjoy the Kim Harrison Hollow books, you will find the same flavor here. The story is another sexy vampire hunter story but done skillfully, with a narrator that fits the character well. The story moves along and you are not bored waiting for action. It is hard to come up with anything really new as there are soooooo many supernatural series out there now, but this one feels fresh and fun, not too heavy and sad even though it is loaded with death. I fully intend to purchase some more in this series. A good curl up on the couch read.

After 12 years of secret training, Atticus O’Sullivan is finally ready to bind his apprentice, Granuaile, to the earth and double the number of Druids in the world. But on the eve of the ritual, the world that thought he was dead abruptly discovers that he’s still alive, and they would much rather he return to the grave. Having no other choice, Atticus, his trusted Irish wolfhound, Oberon, and Granuaile travel to the base of Mount Olympus, where the Roman god Bacchus is anxious to take his sworn revenge - but he’ll have to get in line behind an ancient vampire, a band of dark elves, and an old god of mischief.

For those following this fun series this book may or may not live up to expectations. I felt as though this time much of the book was taken up with factletts and details needed to explain how/why things could happen, but that did not make for the best story. The tale moved us along and hopefully the next book will return to concentrating on entertaining more than positioning characters to be in the right place and progressing the logic.
Still a good time. I mean two kick butt Druids and a mind talking dog. How could it fail to be fun. I will still look forward to and buy the next one.
