Milton Friedman and his wife, Rose, teamed up to write this most convincing and readable guide, which illustrates the crucial link between Adam Smith's capitalism and the free society. They show how freedom has been eroded and prosperity undermined through the rapid growth of governmental agencies, laws, and regulations.

This text is one of the best on the subject of economics. Even though it's decades old, the analysis and principles are still shockingly applicable to our current times. The British accented narrator threw me off a bit at first, but I got used to it and enjoyed the book overall. This is definitely worth your money.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?"

I seriously think this might be short book of the year. Narrator was perfect and the story was smart without requiring you to have a science background. Incredibly funny as well. THAT is how you keep me as a loyal reader and customer. Totally worth your credit, trust me.

The Mote In God's Eye is their acknowledged masterpiece, an epic novel of mankind's first encounter with alien life that transcends the genre. No lesser an authority than Robert A. Heinlein called it "possibly the finest science fiction novel I have ever read".

    J. Rhoderick says: "A great read!"
    "Classics don't get old"
    Overall

By far one of the best books I've heard/read in the genre. I am fairly new to SciFi books having mostly read the big names like Asimov. I will now start looking for Larry Niven's books. I will grant you that some of the science may strike you as a bit dated, but the plot and pace are so well done it won't matter. This book will only seem "old" to you if you think that War & Peace is old because it doesn't have F-22s in it. I'm also impressed with the narrator. Again, it was read at a good pace and the voices were well done. Well worth my money!

In a scrap heap within an abandoned factory, the greatest invention in history lies dormant and unused. By what fatal error of judgment has its value gone unrecognized, its brilliant inventor punished rather than rewarded for his efforts? In defense of those greatest of human qualities that have made civilization possible, one man sets out to show what would happen to the world if all the heroes of innovation and industry went on strike.

Mica says: "Hurt version decidedly superior"
"One of my top 5 novels unless it's this version"
    Overall

Atlas Shrugged is one of the greatest novels I've ever had the pleasure of reading. I got the audiobook to listen to in my car to and from work and to listen to while running. My problem is that I got the abridged version read by Edward Herrmann first. I wanted the unabridged version.....massive mistake. Brick is the worst reader I've ever heard and I've got plenty from Librivox from amateur readers! He makes every man sound angry all of the time. That's the only emotion they convey. And Dagny sounds like she's using a bedroom voice all of the time. I really don't like being rude, but as a paying customer I'm insulted that my money went to pay this guy. @ Audible: PLEASE get a better version, I'll pay again to get something that's less garbage! I recommend Ed Herrmann, his abridged version was fantastic.
