I listened to this just before I deployed to Afghanistan and was amazed at just how much of what was in the book is still relevant today. A great piece to put the conflict and hopes of Afghanistan today into perspective of the regions long history.

A good account of Ceaser, by himself. One cannot be help be amazed at what he did and how he did it. The intervention and expanding of the empire has lessons for today, perhaps, but without the assistance of a map found in books, it is easy to get "lost" so it is important to pay attention.

Classical Pressfield combining a great story with an interesting era of history in a region that we are now all too familar with. The story flows well. Surprisingly, or perhaps one shouldn't be, the names of the places from that era are still in the news today.

Classical stories that have not lost the sense of thrill and interest. Well written and well read, the listener gets a sense of what it was like, and in many parts still is, in that part of the world that is so important today.

Not what I expected, but an interesting "read" that provides insight into the broader issues surrounding this infamous battle.

An interesting twist on the entire Afghanistan issue. The book, like the movie, flows well though stalls in parts.

An interesting way to get the "feel" of the events and the time. The style of the author combined with the narrative provides a good flow and a sense of some of the perhaps subtler issues of the storyline. While it may not be useful for the "true historian" it was entertaining for the part-time one.

I must have been one of the last persons in North America to read this book and it fully lived up to the hipe.

A quick paced, interesting book with a number of twists and turns. The book provides some different insights to Operation Iraqi Freedom, while generally ignoring the rest of the war, the focus of the book reads like a good mystery.

I really enjpy the work, but the abridged version seemed, well, abridged. It lacked the flow and completness of his other books. Would wait for the full version or find another book.
