"Just too much"
Lately, I've been into the vampire/werewolf thing and I have been enjoying it, so, I thought that I would give this series a try. It was a waste for me. Though the idea of the story in the book was interesting, I just couldn't bring myself to get into the multiple 'mate' thing. Maybe I'm getting too old for that idea, or, maybe I'm just a prude. Don't get me wrong, I love hot sex scenes, but, I usually like them when it's 'love' and with building up to a 'life mate' thing. Not, this one today and that one tomorrow, or later on tonight. It had me too confused!! So, if you're not into the several different partner thing and like a more 'old fashioned' love story, this one isn't for you. It wasn't for me..................even wolves mate for life, without all this preamble.
"A favorite genre and author."
The story and genre.
Loved the characters.
A totally different narrator? I can't stand listening to women who are BIIIIIIGGG smokers. It's VERY distracting, especially when I'm expecting her to start hacking and coughing at any given moment. Not feminine at ALL.
It was just plain fun.
Susan Grant is one of my favorite authors. Let's please find narrators that can contribute to her work.............not detract??!!!!!
"It must be me................"
Recently, I've been listening to a few new audiobooks, which I've liked the story line, but, the narrator has JUST been a drag or a downfall.......for me anyway. This particular narrator, rushes through the sentences, doesn't differentiate between characters, so it's hard to decide who's 'talking', has no intonation, and is a bit smutty sounding. This really would have been an enjoyable book, if not for the narrator. Instead, I'm gritting my teeth and rolling my eyes, and all and all wishing for something/someone better..............take my advice, listen to a clip before buying.................too bad the author didn't get to choose a different person reading her book..................I'd be mad if I were her..............because I would have given, at least, another start to this book's rating.
"The narrator brings this down........"
Rachel Gibson's books are some of my favorites..........couldn't wait for another one to be put to audio and was very excited to start listening to this one...........BUT, the narrator is way TOO phone sexy for me...................I'm not interested in phone sex with a woman........LOLL......and this is how she sounds through the majority of the book. Really very annoying, and I was rolling my eyes, frequently, instead of concentrating on the story...........as I was wondering WHY IS SHE READING LIKE THIS?? Can't she read the tale normally, instead of breathing it out in mumbles? Please, don't use this gal again......go back to previous narrators!!
"Like the book, not the narrator"
I really liked this book. I thought it would have been a LOT more fun, if not read through by this narrator. This narrator can do a fine job on a drama, but, on a supposed lighthearted book, she was a real drag. Depressing, even. I really wish she would have tried to have more fun with it, and, maybe even she did, but, to me she's too morose, and she just drives me nuts, that she has to end every sentence or at LEAST every OTHER, with a question or 'high note'. Who talks like that? Who reads like that? Better yet, who listens like that?? Not me. Well, at least not without becoming very annoyed. This gal should keep to dramAS? Get IT?
"First story is ok........."
But, I couldn't stand to listen to the next two. Maybe it was the narrator, or, maybe it was the authors of the 2nd two stories. I had seen a previous review of this book, maybe it was on Amazon, where a couple of folks like the 2nd two stories, but, not the first...........so, I guess, it just goes to show you, it's all personal taste.
I'm just warning in advance, you might want to save your money or credits for something less annoying.
"There's a story in there somewhere.............."
The idea of the story sounded so good, so different, that I thought that this would be a great addition to my audio library. Holy cow, what a mistake! I, gamely, hung in there for almost 2 hours to try to get past all the extraneous, explicit sex scenes, and finally decided that the story was actually, not even secondary to this author and book.
Way too bad, because the idea of the story was a terrific one, but, ruined.
Do yourself a BIG favor, save your credits and more importantly, your MONEY!! Pass on this one. I wish I had.
"Good story, terrible narration"
I think my title says it all. I'm going to give this 3 stars, but, if the story didn't hold up.....................I just canNOT stand this narrator! She sounds like she's 3/4 in the bag and trying to not sound it. If I were the author of this book, I'd be mad they used this narrator and implicitly ask that she not be used again. Cripes.
"Facinating!!"
Facinating, engrossing and obsessive! These are all adjetives that I'm using to describe this book! Especially, the obsessive, as I couldn't stop thinking about the story and it's characters, between 'listenings'. The narration was terrific, very engaging and I'll look for more by this narrator. And, I will most certainly look forward to the author's next book!
"Intriguing"
I was a little bit worried when I first started to listen to this, as the narrator sounded like she was in a deep dark 'hole'...........I wasn't sure if I could get past that. However, I did, and I very much enjoyed this novel. I covered history that I hadn't known very much about and the charactors were interesting and identifiable, which, sometimes is very hard with books on history. This is one tht I went and found the book, so that I could read it, too, which was a little bit hard to do, as it is no longer in print. Nor has this author written a book in a long time or very many. Too bad.
"I should have 'read' it.............."
I'm usually a big fan of this author. This was the first time I have listened to the audio version of one of her books. It seemed like a good enough storyline, but, to tell you the truth, I wish that I had 'read' it, instead!! I swear, if I heard the narrator scream 'Ashton!!!' one more time, 'I' was going to scream!!! There was a LOT of eye rolling going on while I was listening to this and I couldn't wait until it was over!!! I don't know whether or not it was the narrator that was bothering me so much, or if it was, indeed, just the story, so, the next book in the series, I am going to 'try' to read it. I hope it's what I'm used to reading from the author.........otherwise, I'm done with the series.
