Set in 1805, Hornblower and the Crisis finds Horatio Hornblower in possession of confidential dispatches from Bonaparte after a vicious hand-to-hand encounter with a French brig. a little less than some of this C.S. Forester series but it fills in some of Hornblower's life as an English Sailor.

Where does The Ape Who Guards the Balance rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

right up there with the best. Loving the series. My vision is starting to go so I love the fact that I can get the book with optional audio. laughter, suspense, irony, mystery etc, etc, etc. the characters are so unique!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Ape Who Guards the Balance?

too many to separate any one of the best moments

What about Barbara Rosenblat’s performance did you like?

the performance was good but with so many different characters it was sometimes confusing. these books could use two different readers.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

definitely-- almost did. however, one must get sleep sometime.

    Any additional comments?

please have all of her books with whisper sync and still be reasonable in price. You should have special access for people who have impaired vision.

The year is 1793, the eve of the Napoleonic Wars, and Horatio Hornblower, a 17-year-old boy unschooled in seafaring and the ways of seamen, is ordered to board a French merchant ship and take command of crew and cargo for the glory of England. Though not an unqualified success, this first naval adventure teaches the young midshipman enough to launch him on a series of increasingly glorious exploits.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Beats TV by a mile. What excitement, sailng without motors for years at a time. Of course there is that problem of ships appearing over the horizon and trying to sink you.
    Written well.

What other book might you compare Mr. Midshipman Hornblower to and why?

Only books I could compare it to would be the rest of the Hornblower series

    Which scene was your favorite?

    Too many favorites to decide

Who was the most memorable character of Mr. Midshipman Hornblower and why?

    Horatio Hornblower
