  • Shadow's Edge: Night Angel Trilogy, Book 2

    • UNABRIDGED (20 hrs and 25 mins)
    • By Brent Weeks
    • Narrated By Paul Boehmer
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Kylar Stern has rejected the assassin's life. The Godking's successful coup has left Kylar's master, Durzo, and his best friend, Logan, dead. He is starting over---new city, new friends, and new profession. But when he learns that Logan might actually be alive and in hiding, Kylar is faced with an agonizing choice: will he give up the way of shadows forever and live in peace with his new family, or will he risk everything by taking on the ultimate hit?

    Charles says: "more great action"
"The second of a good trilogy."

Brent Weeks has done really well with the second book in this series. The characters continue to pull you in and make you care what happens to them. The narrator does not detract from the story instead helps pull you into the world. I will say that the situations and language are not fit for your kids so if you are easily offended I would stay away. This is not to say that the book is riddled with objectionable material, it is not. I would recommend it whole heartedly.

  • Hammered: The Iron Druid Chronicles, Book 3

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 40 mins)
    • By Kevin Hearne
    • Narrated By Luke Daniels
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Thor, the Norse god of thunder, is worse than a blowhard and a bully - he’s ruined countless lives and killed scores of innocents. After centuries, Viking vampire Leif Helgarson is ready to get his vengeance, and he’s asked his friend Atticus O’Sullivan, the last of the Druids, to help take down this Norse nightmare. One survival strategy has worked for Atticus for more than two thousand years: stay away from the guy with the lightning bolts. But things are heating up in Atticus’s home base of Tempe, Arizona....

    Hallie says: "Love this series!"
"This is really, really a great listen."

Hammered, along with the other Iron Druid books are great. This gives a fresh view to some classic character types. It also gives some humor that will cause you to burst out in laughter at times. This is written well, narrated well and I wouldn't mind if there were 10 more books in the series.

  • Lonesome Dove

    • UNABRIDGED (36 hrs and 11 mins)
    • By Larry McMurtry
    • Narrated By Lee Horsley

Larry McMurtry's American epic, set in the late 19th century, tells the story of a cattle drive from Texas to Montana, a drive that represents not only a daring foolhardy adventure, but a part of the American Dream for everyone involved.

    A. Wright says: "Inspired reading of a great book"
    "An long, meandering, entertaining story."
Where does Lonesome Dove rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I prefer Brandon Sanderson and Brent Weeks and George R. R. Martin, but mostly due to genre. This is the first western I have listened to and I like it alot, so I would consider it near the top of non Sci Fi stories I have listened to.

What did you like best about this story?

The story kept my attention 100%. It was never about anything and it was about everything all at the same time. It was a slice of time from the past and that past was rough, unforgiving, and downright cruel at times.

    Any additional comments?

If you need a change of pace, or a long entertaining read then Lonesome Dove fits the bill.

  • Hard Magic: Book I of the Grimnoir Chronicles

    • UNABRIDGED (15 hrs and 59 mins)
    • By Larry Correia
    • Narrated By Bronson Pinchot

Jake Sullivan is a licensed private eye with a seriously hardboiled attitude. He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. It's no wonder the G-men turn to Jake when they need someoneto go after a suspected killer who has been knocking off banks in a magic-enhanced crime spree.

Clinton says: "Not what I thought it was going to be."
"Not as good as Monster Hunter/"
What made the experience of listening to Hard Magic the most enjoyable?

Bronson Pinchot narrates the story very well and the magical system is unique.

If you’ve listened to books by Larry Correia before, how does this one compare?

The characters from the Monster Hunter books made me like the story as much as the story itself. I don't find the characters as endearing in this book.

What about Bronson Pinchot’s performance did you like?

Well read with varying voices for the different characters.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

What happens when magical abilities and WW1 are combined.
