Women and men who like very traditional romance themes i.e., a devastatingly beautiful, powerful and mysterious man seduces a clumsy, but charming and beautiful, girl-next-door type.
I think James is pandering to the main stream. Would love if she would do something off beat because she seems as if she is capable of it.
No idea, but if her interpretation deviated from what James intended then I don't think it helped. Battoe just made Anatasia seem even less competent and even more helpless, which was unnecessary. To me, it made Anastatia harder to relate to.
This book is a good way to kill time. Got a long car ride and a semi-diverse (non-academic) audience? This story is engaging, so the time will fly by, but any book that equates external "beauty" with kindness, generosity, and "goodness" will never feel very sophisticated to me.
I liked a couple of the sub-stories, but I wanted more of each of the six sub-stories and instead they were simply strung together. In other words, it had was well done in terms of craft (rich, quality descriptions; entertaining narratives), but I was left a little unsatisfied for some reason. Not quite sure why. And even though it was really well done, it wasn't good enough that I would re-read it. I will see the movie, though. :)
Yes, only because its major theme is an important one across history (power and predation between humans) and one that I personally find significant.
Personally, I would have preferred a less open-ended ending.
I am a fan of authors leaving some things up to the readers, but at the end of this I was annoyed that there was so much left unexplained. Who were the little people??
All of the narrators were great. Can't think of three words though.
Depends on the friend. It would have to be someone who reads/listens to a lot of books, because this wouldn't be my first recommendation for someone, but for anyone who is looking for something light it is not a bad way to spend some time.
Most interesting: a bunch of kids having to be adult really fast (due to war and violence), but still negotiating being kids. Least interesting: maybe because it was written some time ago, but the characters were kind of stale and predictable.
