  • The English American

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 10 mins)
    • By Alison Larkin
    • Narrated By Alison Larkin
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When Pippa Dunn, adopted as an infant and raised terribly British, discovers that her birth parents are from the American South, she finds that "culture clash" has layers of meaning she'd never imagined. Meet The English American, a fabulously funny, deeply poignant debut novel that sprang from Alison Larkin's autobiographical one-woman show of the same name.

    Michael says: "Outstanding"
    "A Totally Delightful Book!!"

I loved the story and I loved the narration. I could not stop listening!

  • Safe Haven

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 4 mins)
    • By Nicholas Sparks
    • Narrated By Rebecca Lowman
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When Katie appears in the small North Carolina town of Southport, her sudden arrival raises questions about her past. Beautiful yet self-effacing, Katie seems determined to avoid forming personal ties until a series of events draws her into two reluctant relationships: one with Alex, a widowed store owner with a kind heart and two young children; and another with her plainspoken single neighbor, Jo. Despite her reservations, Katie begins to let down her guard, putting down roots in the close-knit community..

    I. Nelson says: "Safe Haven"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

People who like sappy, uneventful love stories.

What was most disappointing about Nicholas Sparks’s story?

I listened for 3 hours and nothing interesting happened in the story.

  • Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades Trilogy

    • UNABRIDGED (19 hrs and 47 mins)
    • By E. L. James
    • Narrated By Becca Battoe
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.

Shopper24 says: "Laughed so hard, I nearly coughed up a lung!!"
"I don't think the last narrator was the problem"

People were so upset that the previous narrator sounded like a teenager, so audible had the book redone. I think the problem is that the character, Anatasia, ACTS like a teenager. And a very very insipid one at that! I could not stand the two main characters of this book. The man, Grey, is a sickening sadist who is taking advantage of a moronic child of a girl. Anastasia is simply an idiot with very little self esteem or brains. They are both revolting. I could not finish this book. If I had to hear Ana say, " Hoooooly Crap" one more time.......!!!! If you have a need to like at least one of the characters, and you think sex should be about love, then don't buy this silly and perverted book. Also it was like every other porno piece I have ever seen. One sex scene leads to another. Only the sex scenes were not even fun to listen to because they were so sick. I do not understand why anyone likes this book. BTW, I thought both narrators were very good. I do not think it their fault that the book is so twisted morally.

  • Sin Killer: Volume 1 of The Berrybender Narratives

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 41 mins)
    • By Larry McMurtry
    • Narrated By Alfred Molina
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Against the immense backdrop of the American West, Larry McMurtry tracks the Berrybender's as they make their way up the great river, surviving attacks, discomfort, savage weather, and natural disaster. Sin Killer is an adventure story as big as the West itself, full of incident, and suspense, as well as a charming love story between a headstrong and aristocratic young Englishwoman and the stubborn, shy, and very American Jim Snow.

Erin says: "Unemotional characters are brutally honest"
"The Berrybender Narratives are just delightful"

These books paint a vivid portrait of the western plains in the early 1800's. Terrible things happen but the violence is not graphic, rather a bit removed. It is there, but not gory. The clash of civilizations between the europeans and the frontiersmen is very humorous. The BerryBender's are very eccentric and self centered. The frontiersmen are self centered in a different way, that of self survival. Larry McMurtry's writing is excellent as always. I am now on the 4th book, Folly and Glory, and cannot put it down. The narration is also excellent well done. I will be sad when I am done with the series.

  • The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality

    • ABRIDGED (7 hrs and 45 mins)
    • By Jerome R. Corsi
    • Narrated By Jerome R. Corsi

Author Jerome Corsi has been researching Barack Obama's personal and political background since Obama's 2006 election to the U.S. Senate.

    David says: "Obama ?"
"Before you vote for Obama, read this book!!!"

Based on own autobiographies, along with his actions and associations, it becomes very clear why Obama chose Reverend Wright's black liberation theology for 20 years. He is not good for America! Please learn who this man really is before you vote for him!

  • Empire Falls

    • UNABRIDGED (20 hrs and 24 mins)
    • By Richard Russo
    • Narrated By Ron McLarty

From his first novel, Mohawk, to his most recent, Straight Man, Richard Russo has demonstrated great affinity for the tragicomic human condition, and here he expands his geographical and psychological claims on the small town, blue-collar heart of the country.

    Tom New says: "Empire Falls"
    "Excellent Book"

Don't be discouraged by the reviews calling this book boring. If you love books about relationships between people, this is the book for you. The narration was excellent and the storyline engrossing. I really loved it and was sorry when it ended! I am going to download his other books too. This was one of the best I have listened to.

  • Peony in Love: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 13 mins)
    • By Lisa See
    • Narrated By Janet Song
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

For young Peony, betrothed to a suitor she has never met, lyrics from The Peony Pavilion mirror her own longings. In the garden of the Chen Family Villa, amid the scent of ginger, green tea, and jasmine, a small theatrical troupe is performing scenes from this epic opera, a live spectacle few females have ever seen. Like the heroine in the drama, Peony is the cloistered daughter of a wealthy family, trapped like a good-luck cricket in a bamboo-and-lacquer cage.

    L. Swartz says: "Unusual and excellent book"
    "Unusual and excellent book"

It actually began a little slowly with a focus on a love story which I typically find boring but then about an hour into the book it got very very interesting. I was spellbound and disappointed when it ended. It was a wonderful foray into the customs and spiritual world of early china.
