  • Gone Too Far

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 53 mins)
    • By Suzanne Brockmann
    • Narrated By Deborah Hazlett

Lt. Sam Starrett, one of America's elite warriors, shows up at his ex-wife's home only to discover that his daughter is gone and a woman's body lies brutally murdered on the floor. FBI agent Alyssa Locke, who once was involved with Sam, is assigned to the case, and soon explosive information surfaces that links Sam to an unsolved assassination plot. With her reputation hanging in the balance, Alyssa must arrest a man she believes to be innocent or risk her career.

    Aurora says: "Oh Sam!"
"Excellent for Alyssa and Sam Fans"
Would you listen to Gone Too Far again? Why?

Yes. I really enjoy the humor in Brockmann's series. My favorite pairing (Locke and Starrett) are at their best in this one and I recommend it to any Alyssa/Sam fan!

What did you like best about this story?

Humor, sexy banter between characters. Storyline was so-so, but I can overlook it since I enjoy the couples in this one so much. I thought that the narrator was excellent and am dismayed that she hasn't done many of the others as well.

Which character – as performed by Deborah Hazlett – was your favorite?

I think she does them all well. I'm really hard-pressed to pick a fave.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    Definitely laugh...

  • Hot Pursuit

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 27 mins)
    • By Suzanne Brockmann
    • Narrated By Renee Raudman and Patrick G. Lawlor

Alyssa takes on the extremely public assignment of providing personal protection for Savannah von Hopf, an old friend who is running for office. While high-profile, the bodyguard job seems simple and easy enough - except Alyssa is juggling her stressful leadership position with a new baby and a husband who is her subordinate.

When Alyssa receives several disturbing messages from "the Dentist," a serial killer she has relentlessly pursued for years, Alyssa must take action to protect those closest to her.

Aurora says: "A thriller within Suz's line"
"Love the series- But Narration.. Not So Much"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. I love books that contain relationships between people from different races/backgrounds. Brockmann's series is definitely entertaining. My favorite pairing is Alyssa and Sam, but there are some other good ones throughout as well. Although this title wasn't my favorite in the series (I was greatly amused by the love/hate banter between Alyssa and Sam in past works), Brockmann writes an entertaining story with a good balance of sexy romance and suspenseful adventure.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Not at the 'edge of my seat', but I didn't really expect that going into the series in the first place. She does seem to know a good deal about the military life and it was an exciting listen...

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Renee Raudman and Patrick G. Lawlor?

Deborah Hazlett for female narration for sure! As for the male...oh, I don't know....anyone other than the one who did this one?! I felt that the emotions that the narrators were trying to convey were terribly forced and I didn't care for the lack of 'smoothness' in their delivery..sorry.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Just had an extreme reaction to the narration...akin to nails on a chalkboard...again, sorry.

  • Intensity: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 35 mins)
    • By Dean Koontz
    • Narrated By Kate Burton

Past midnight, Chyna Shepherd, 26, gazed out a moonlit window, unable to sleep on her first night in the Napa Valley home of her best friend's family. Instinct proves reliable. A murderous sociopath, Edgler Forman Vess, has entered the house, intent on killing everyone inside. A self-proclaimed "homicidal adventurer", Vess lives only to satisfy all appetites as they arise, to immerse himself in sensation, to live without fear, remorse, or limits, to live with intensity.

Connie says: "One of the best Koontz Books!"
    "Intense--just like the title says"
Would you listen to Intensity again? Why?

Yes. I felt that the narration was very good. The story was what I would expect from Koontz.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes. The plot delivers the intensity that the title promises....Very hard to stop listening to with lots of description that brings out the absolute evil in the villain and courage in the heroine.

What does Kate Burton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She reads well and has a pleasant voice. Her inflections were well-timed and her characters distinct. With audiobooks, I find that some female narrators have difficulty reading male characters, but Ms. Burton did a very good job with this. I was very entertained and engrossed in this audiobook. I always appreciate a talented narrator who shows great acting ability through their storytelling.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

  • Middlesex

    • UNABRIDGED (21 hrs and 26 mins)
    • By Jeffrey Eugenides
    • Narrated By Kristoffer Tabori

In the spring of 1974, Calliope Stephanides, a student at a girls' school in Grosse Pointe, finds herself drawn to a chain-smoking, strawberry-blonde classmate with a gift for acting. The passion that furtively develops between them - along with Callie's failure to develop physically - leads Callie to suspect that she is not like other girls. In fact, she is not really a girl at all.

Chris says: "Great Pulitzer Winning novel!"
    "Wonderful Storytelling"

This novel was well written and very engaging. The author does an excellent job in taking you through the two generations of familial history and culture with characters that are very real. Full of humor and insight, this was definitely a must read. Can't wait to see more of this talent.

  • Unraveled: The True Story of a Woman Who Dared to Become a Different Kind of Mother

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs)
    • By Maria Housden
    • Narrated By Staci Snell
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

As a 12-year-old girl, Maria Housden's vision of a happy future included everything that society expects girls to yearn for: a home, a husband, and, of course, children. Life had other plans.

    Teri says: "Thought-Provoking"
    "You've Got To Be Kidding....."

In a nutshell, for anyone who may be wrongfully misguided as to what the mysterious and unique method of parenting this author is wanting to reveal, this book is nothing more than the author's guilty feelings of abandoning her children and husband after going to a retreat to "find herself". Welcome to adulthood, parenthood and real life! This book was such a waste of time and energy as it will only have any responsible mother and wife cringing in disbelief and exasperation at this selfish woman who throws out excuse after excuse for not wanting to raise her children.
