This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

What did you love best about The Stand?

    Everything!

What did you like best about this story?

    Mr. Gardner's narration was fantastic!

    Which scene was your favorite?

I cried when listening to the scene after Stu broke his leg and the others were forced to leave him behind

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I cried like a baby and it felt great!

    Any additional comments?

I read the abridged version of this book soon after it was published, watched the made for TV miniseries when it came out and decided to give the unabridged audio book a whirl. I was NOT disappointed! I loaded the book on my Garmin GPS. I hate to drive, but I found myself looking forward to getting into the car for my commute to work. I truly hated for the story to end, I even watched the miniseries again (NEVER as good as the book). This is definitely my favorite Stephen King book and I've read them all!
