I love the storyline after listening to the previous 4 recordings from Audible, but the narration of this one makes listening into more of a chore than something enjoyable. For some reason the series switches from Scott Brick's excellent narration to what sounds like an 80s Speak & Spell for the last installment. The lack of differentiation between characters is disconcerting, especially having just listened to Foundation's Edge where the narrator gives the main characters (who return in Foundation and Earth) very distinctive tones.
I really enjoyed the book overall, and Scott Brick's narrations are consistently excellent. About half way through I started noticing strange jumps and cuts in the audiobook, however. Events would be referenced that I didn't remember, and chapters would end abruptly. It wasn't until I started going through the reviews here that I noticed previous reviewers billing the title at 40+ hours long, even though the "Unabridged" version available now is closer to 16. Every other vendor refers to the 16 hour version as the abridged version, and after finding a hard copy of the book I compared the first page of a couple chapters with the audio and realized it has been heavily cut.
Unfortunately the content of the book, being very detail-oriented, does not lend itself to abridgement well at all. Expect to be confused now and then when characters appear suddenly, and scenes end with little resolution. I'm disappointed that Audible has pulled a bait-and-switch, portraying the abridged version incorrectly when it seems like the unabridged version was previously available. Hopefully they will take the opportunity to correct their mistake.
