  • Eat and Run: My Unlikely Journey to Ultramarathon Greatness

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 24 mins)
    • By Scott Jurek, Steve Friedman
    • Narrated By Quincy Dunn-Baker

A dominant force in the sport of ultrarunning, Scott Jurek is a seven-time winner of the 100-mile Western States Endurance Run and a two-time winner of the 135-mile Badwater Ultramarathon through Death Valley. Eat & Run offers an inspirational account of Jurek’s life as a runner and vegan. Regaling listeners with jaw-dropping tales of endurance, Jurek also delivers sound science and practical advice—as well as his favorite plant-based recipes.

Heidi says: "If you liked "Born to Run"...get this book!!!"
"Better then expected - and I expected a lot!"
Where does Eat and Run rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Near the top. I have enjoyed many of my audiobooks as I don't choose them lightly. This is one I will listen to again.

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoyed the way Scott weaved the topics. I never felt like I was getting hit over the head with emotional pain, life triumphs, eating habits, training sequences or other ideas. It just flowed in a way that felt like a conversation. It was never preachy and never felt forced.

What about Quincy Dunn-Baker’s performance did you like?

His cadence and inflection supported the no nonsense, authentic writing. He was purposeful and measured without being drab and boring.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me want to be better, eat better, think better.

    Any additional comments?

Just like "Born to Run" was way more than just a book about running, this is also more than just a book about what a dominate athlete eats. A person who runs extreme distances spends a lot of time alone with themselves and with their thoughts. It creates a different kind of person. These insights into the Scott's brain were amazingly inspiring and challenging. Great read.

  • And the Mountains Echoed

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 1 min)
    • By Khaled Hosseini
    • Narrated By Khaled Hosseini, Navid Negahban, Shohreh Aghdashloo
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Khaled Hosseini, the number-one New York Times best-selling author of The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, has written a new novel about how we love, how we take care of one another, and how the choices we make resonate through generations.

FanB14 says: "Does the End Justify the Means"
"Worth a read but not my favorite Hosseini offering"
    Any additional comments?

And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini was not all that I hoped it to was good, don't misunderstand, but the other two were better and The Kite Runner is still my favorite. This one is mercifully less graphic than the other two. I say "mercifully" not because the author was ever harsh for harshness sake. Quite the contrary, I have always found his harder scenes appropriate. I am just a bit weak natured when it comes to those things. FYI there are a lot of reviews criticizing the accents in the narration. It is thick at some points, but I really liked it. It gave an authenticity to the read and added a deeper level of connection for me at least.
