She's braved battlefields. She's stolen dispatches from under the noses of heads of state. She's played the worldly courtesan, the naive virgin, the refined British lady, even a Gypsy boy. But Annique Villiers, the elusive spy known as the Fox Cub, has finally met the one man she can't outwit... British spymaster Robert Grey must enter France and bring back the brilliant, beautiful - and dangerous - Fox Cub. His duty is to capture her and her secrets for England.

Loved the historical aspect of this story as well as the adventure and the surprise twist to the story. I think Kirsten Potter did a great job of bringing these characters to life and her accents were fun and entertaining! Joanna Bourne can sure write a love scene that seems realistic and natral without it being trashy and vulgar. The characters are a little over the top and incredible but still so amusing that you can't help but find out more. I would love for audible to present more of Joanna Bourne's work.

Now, picking up from A Discovery of Witches' cliff-hanger ending, Shadow of Night plunges Diana Bishop and Matthew Clairmont into Elizabethan London, a world of spies, subterfuge, and a coterie of Matthew's old friends, the mysterious School of Night that includes Christopher Marlowe and Walter Raleigh. Here, Diana must locate a witch to tutor her in magic, Matthew is forced to confront a past he thought he had put to rest, and the mystery of Ashmole 782 deepens. Deborah Harkness has crafted a gripping journey through a world of alchemy, time travel, and magical discoveries.

If only I could time travel! Since I can't seem to make that happen I guess I will have to live vicariously through books. This follow up book to Deborah Harkness's A Discovery of Witches did not disappoint me. I enjoyed meeting Matthews friends and family from the past. Both books can be read and understood as a stand alone but if you read the first book you will enjoy finding out more about Matthew's past and Diana's discoverys of her witchy abilities. If you're a fan of magic, history, adventure, suspense and romance then don't hesitate!! This book is NOTHING like that of Tolkien, Martin, or Brooks so please don't think it will be a "fantasy" read similiar to those stories.

Though Darcy struggles privately with his desire for Elizabeth Bennet, he must still fulfill his roles as landlord, master, brother, and friend. In Book Two, the "silent time" of Austen's novel, Fitzwilliam Darcy and his personal world emerge as he deals with his servants, including a valet with aspirations of sartorial triumph.

Completely entertaining! It's hard to imagine Darcy with anybody else besides Elizabeth. This book was so much fun since it was written from Darcy's perspective. I must admit, Im completely entertained by Mr. Darcy's valet Fletcher who seems to be sharp, a true gentleman, loyal, full of advice and the incredible ability to quote Shakepeare. A fun story that shows how Darcy interacts with others in his life.

"Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness… He was beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private wounds…and desires."

I enjoy a happy ending but can these two individuals with abusive pasts make their future together work? What is incredibly depressing is how high the statics really are for those that have suffered from abuse. Im sure alot more people will be able to relate to this story than they are willing to admit. The hurt, need for acceptance and struggle for security in these characters make you want to find out what happens to them.

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

What a wonderful story full of history, time travel, adventure, romance, and FUN!! This book was just a random purchase, I just happened upon it when I was searching audible essentials. I am SOOOO glad I decided to get it on a whimsy! Imust also say that I've picked up some Gaelic along the way and my Scottish impersonation has improved. I never knew much about Scotland or the history but since Outlander I've become more interested in their history and culture. Fascinating indeed! The characters in the story are just so realistic and you can't help but want to find out more. Rumor has it that HBO will be presenting a television series pretty soon.

Damien Knight, the earl of Winterley, is proud, aloof, and tormented by memories of war. Though living in seclusion, he is named guardian to a fellow officer's ward. Instead of the young homeless waif he was expecting, however, Miranda FitzHubert is a stunning, passionate beauty who invades his sanctuary and forces him back into society. Struggling to maintain honor and self-control, Damien now faces an even greater threat: desire.

Entertaining story! Loved that the heroine was strong, compassionate, aware of her flaws but decided to make lemonade out of lemons and always willing to go the distance for her loved ones. Only one true complaint, the narrator's voice for Lord Damien Knight Winterly was incredibly annoying since each word was drawn out and sounded like a stuffy, judgmental geezer!! What kind of hardened military man would sound like that? Ugh!

Would you consider the audio edition of An Assembly Such as This to be better than the print version?

Never read the print version but I truly enjoyed the audiobook. Mr. Holmes did a nice job of bringing the characters to life. I must say that 'seeing" life from Darcy's perspective was interesting, heart warming, heart breaking and always amusing. When I read P&P again I found myself thinking about the way Pamela Aidan related Mr. Darcy's character in accordance to some of the events. It was also nice to be introduced to new characters such as Darcy's Shakepeare quoting valet Fletcher and Lord Di Broom, Darcy's closest friend.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mr. Darcy of course!! Who hasn't had a crush on this guy? It was amusing to see how he simply viewed his interactions with Elizabeth as witty banter and looked forward to seeing her while she on the other hand, viewed their interactions as cumbersome.

Which character – as performed by George Holmes – was your favorite?

I enjoyed all of his character portrayals but my favorite of course, was Darcy since the story is told from his perspective.

If you could take any character from An Assembly Such as This out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Obviously Darcy but then again, maybe Mr. Bingley since he is good natured and adored by all who meet him.
