I just don't know. Perhaps it's expectation vs reality. I so thoroghly enjoyed the authors other works, I thought I'd like this too.
I really enjoy Scalzi's latest stuff but this was baffling.
The production values on these Star Wars audiobooks greatly enhance the books and these are in many ways radio dramas rather than audiobooks. The music, the sound effects, everything comes together in a fantastic audio presentation.
As far as production is concerned, any other Star Wars audiobook, as for content, Oceans 11.
I gotta pick one? Marc is so incredibly good and gives nuanced performances for each character. I gotta say though, the first time I heard Lando speak all I could hear was, "It's just me, Billy Dee." So cool
1 Uncrackable Vault, 11 Scoundrels. 150 Million Credits. Ready To Win Big?
Just hurry up and buy it!
Marc Vietor does such a great job with all of the different characters and emotions needed in this.
I am determined to get through this entire series, I'm really enjoying it.
There's a great part in the middle of the book that really establishes how human these characters are.
Swashbuckling Romantic Intrigue.
You do fall in love with Lady Katerine as she struggles (initially) with her position and them looses herself in her new found freedoms.
As others have said, do NOT buy this based on the famous people doing some voice work, good though it may be that ONLY accounts for about 5-10% of the overall production. The rest of the work is EXTREMELY well done. Just don't buy this thinking you're going to be hearing a lot of Felicia Day and you're golden.
Ready Player One is my ALL TIME favourite read. After reading this I ordered 4 copies of the hard cover book to give to my friends and I have NEVER done that before. Each friend in turn sent me txt's "ZOMG This book is amazing!"
This books takes you to all of those things that were cool when we were growing up and gives you the fantasy you dreamed about as a kid.
I'm just going to park my hover-De Lorean right next to this X-Wing!
They were all fantastic, I can't choose one.
Definitely to some introspection early in the third act and the finale was fantastic
If you read science-fiction, if you watch science fiction, if you grew up in the 80's and played Pacman at the local arcade, YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK!
Funny, Meta, Trek
As I've mentioned in other reviews, I LOVE Wil Wheatons narration and will buy books simply because he is reading them.
Towards the end of the book when our heroes come up with a plan so everyone can live happily ever after.
The contrast between the two stories is utterly amazing. John did an amazing job rewriting Little Fuzzy and I was thrilled listening to it and trying to work out what everyones angle was.
Wil Wheaton is an incredible reader and I'll happily buy something on his narration alone.
There was one part but it's been a while since I listened to it.
Both books are fantastic sci-fi, but in this instance, I think Scalzi's reworking makes it better than the original.
Didn't read the print version but really enjoyed this. Quite an interesting world she's laid out here.
The revelation of how Jane and Beast were joined. WOW!
You know, at first I was really, REALLY unsure about Khristine's performance, but I went with it and before I knew it she had me mesmerised. Her voice is perfect for this story, she really does purrrr.
I certainly could have. But good things are best enjoyed slowly ;)
If you enjoy watching True Blood, you'll LOVE this series.
Sci-Fi Military Action
Just a fantastic military sci-fi romp. It's got great characters, setting and pace.
The way he brought certain characters to life was great.
Moved me, no. Excite me, HELL YES! The final assault was fantastic
Can't wait to read the rest of this series.
I enjoyed pretty much all of the books in this set EXCEPT for The Book of Merlin. This final book waffles and wanders as it hammers you with the point the Author was trying to make in his story. A very disappointing end to what was quite an entertaining series.
The first part is ok but as mentioned before, just skip The Book of Merlin.
Mr Jason did a wonderful job animating all of the characters and I'd definitely listen to him again.
I am inspired to read other works regarding Arthur after reading this. It also brought back so many memories of reading Arthurian legends as a child.
The series as a whole is wonderful but, as with Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia series, the final book lets it down and bombards the reader with the Authors theories on life, the universe and everything. Instead of letting the reader come to their own decision he forces this upon you.The above is ONLY true of the final book and all of the other books are marvellous, though it does feel a little more like the legend of Lancelot than Arthur.I would recommend this book to any fan of Arthurian legend, but just skip the last book, it adds very little to the story.
