Small talk, repetition of ideas not only from prior books but with in this book itself and continued repeats of story line take up half the book with very little value except to fill pages. I am aware that a small amount is needed for people that jump in to the middle of a series but this goes way beyond that. I have been expecting more since the 4th book but this is going down hill.
Sadly I am cutting my losses at this point and will not be completing this series. If you like the story theme, try 'The Wheel Of Time' series by Jordan.
The change in narrator impacts the perception of the book but the story continues with a broadening spectrum of new and old characters. The original narrator definitely gave the reading a tone and feeling that coincided with the story and characters which is definitely lacking with the new reader. You have to be more aware of the characters by name as they are read since the new narrator does not intone a different voice for the characters making it more difficult to pick up who is who as quickly as could be done in the first three books.
Aside from the new narrator, the story continues to grow. As with any story, characters come, go and change. The author has us living with these characters as if we were with them so any changes have an impact because the characters are written in such detail. Happily ever after would devalue this great story and characters so I will go with the good and bad as it occurs to them. Is that not what a great story should do?
I do hope the original narrator is brought back. It does give the story more feel and distinction. That being said, I am very much looking forward to the next book whether the narrator stays the same or the original one comes back. I love a good story!
