"This will have you panting"
I'm not a fan of the romance genre, so I found Anna's character really annoying. And the way the narrator reads the character is grating (I'm not a fan of silly girls). But, this made the really hot parts of the book so much better. The way Becca gets really breathy and deep for Grey is intoxicating and worth enduring the inbetween parts of the book for.
This is the kind of book where you have to leave your sense at the door - this is an unrealistic fantasy world. I won't even go into the flaws in the themes in the book. I think E.L. James should stick to short erotic stories.
I recommend you suspend reality, curl up on the couch, endure the crappy romance and hold out for the fantastic hot scenes. Becca's reading of them makes the audiobook so much hotter than reading it yourself.
"Perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon"
I just love Agatha Christie's Miss Marple stories. And Joan Hickson is my favourite Miss Marple. Her voice has that very proper English lady sound while also sounding very inquisitive and intelligent.
This is the perfect audio book to sit back in the evening and just envelope yourself in the fascinating world that Agatha Christie creates.
As a book, this is my favourite Miss Marple story. It has such interesting characters and such devious twists and turns in the plot.
If you like little old lady murder mysteries you'll love this audiobook.
"Life changing for me"
This book moved me to tears. But despite its description of very tragic events, I felt uplifted by this book.
Frankl, a survivor of Nazi concentration camps, analyses mans search for the meaning of life. When life is stripped down to the bare basics of the day-today struggle to survive, what meaning do people give to life and how does their frame of mind help them feel that life is a treasure worth keeping.
I suffer chronic pain, which never goes away, ever. And this book made me realize how you can keep a positive outlook even in the depth of suffering.
This book is definitely worth listening to.
"Augusten Burroughs at his best"
I bought this audiobook based purely on the fact that I love Augusten's writing and view of the world. And I wasn't disappointed. Although I was not looking for a self help book, Augusten has such a great perspective on the world that there are insights in this book that have made me look at the world and myself in a completely different way. This is no usual self help book, but rather a man who's gone through it all, come out the other side and telling it like it really is.
I love that the author narrates this audiobook. As this is advice from his very personal experience, he's able to give life to his witty writing.
I listened to this right through in a very short time as it was riveting, and have now dipped back into it to re-listen to chapters that really resonated with me. I don't think this book will ever be deleted from my smart phone - this is a great book to listen to on public transport. You'll alight at the other end of your trip a much more alive person.
"A Rollercoaster"
This made me giddy, excited and want to throw up. From his hilarious tales of his past antics, passionate tirades and recounting of his painful childhood, Corey's reading of his book takes the audience on the ride with him. It made me guffaw out loud on public transport and made my heart hurt. For such an angry, loud personality, you can hear the hurt 11 year old in his voice as he recounts his childhood. He is the consummate performer and it all comes out in this audiobook.
Yes, Corey can rant. Sometimes I wondered where he was going. But hey, that's what he's made his career out of, and it was entertaining none-the-lessI would honestly get this book for his gorgeous voice alone. He could make a third career just out of reading audiobooks (he rivals David Tennant as my favorite narrator).Oh, and for those not familiar with Corey's other work, it would be amiss of me not to mention the very strong language. It makes the book what it is though, and he has such an amazing way with words. I was really impressed. Really, really impressed with this book.
"Hilarious and entertaining"
The performance rates up there with the best. David Tennant is my number 1 narrator, and he does comedy so well. The story is the best light comedy I've listened to so far.
The female doctor. This relatively straight character has some fantastic dry wit.
The little old lady. How he does female characters so well is beyond me.
I only bought this audiobook because David Tennant narrated it in his native Scottish accent. I was delighted with David's performance, but was really surprised at how funny this book was. Its not a genre I would normally go for, but it was really, really entertaining. I can thoroughly recommend it if you want a light, funny listen.
"Boring"
Its poorly written, cliched, and unimaginable.
No, it makes other books in this genre look much better.
The performance was fine.
Not really, other than being free.
Hey, download it for free, but you get what you pay for with this one. Good to fill a really boring moment.
"Awesome Miss Marple Short Stories"
Its a series of 13 short stories, expertly read by Joan Hickson (my favourite Miss Marple). Each story is the perfect length to listen to before bed, on the train, etc. Each keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering who-dunnit.
Yes, by having a series of short stories, so the suspense never lowers.
Joan Hickson's voice just epitomizes Miss Marple. But she's also a great actress who brings life to every character, and adds suspense and excitement through her voice.
A good selection for time poor people.
"I've never seen my nieces so enthralled"
David Tennant is an awesome narrator. The story is already fantastic, but he puts such gusto, feeling, and humour into his voice that listening to is a million times better than me reading it. I put it on and curled up at night with my 2 nieces and listened to this. I have never seen them so enthralled by anything before.
It is so funny, the main characters are so likable. An excellent
All of David tennant's performances are awesome. This is just as fantastic as any of them. I hope he continues to narrate more children's stories.
My nieces held their breath and were wide eyed with anticipation about once every chapter.
I would really love to see audible release the Unabridged version. But for now, this abridged version is still fun and perfect for an Aunt's one week visit.
"Just as gripping as the movie"
suspenseful, sexy, powertrips
Lisbeth of course. Who wouldn't love a tattooed, pierced, kick-arse, introverted, computer geek? She gives as good as she gets, if not better.
Already done.
The audio book is better than the movies - you get more into the heads of the main characters. However, as with most male narrators, they find it hard to do women's voices. Lisbeth is an introverted Northern European women of few words - they should be said in a very clipped, direct and brief way. The narrators breathy Lisbet just doesn't seem right. But it didn't effect my overall joy of listening to this book. His pronunciation of Swedish places and names was great.
