  • Broken Government: How Republican Rule Destroyed the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial Branches

In his eighth book, Dean takes the broadest and deepest view yet of the dysfunctional chaos and institutional damage that the Republican Party and its core conservatives have inflicted on the federal government. He assesses the state of all three branches of government, tracing their decline through the presidencies of Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush I, and Bush II.

    Overall

I really enjoyed John Dean's Book "Conservatives without Conscience", So I thought I'd give this book a try. This book dragged more because it gets into the nitty-gritty details of government. You will learn things, especially about the Supreme Court. But this book is only for the people who really like the "Sausage Making" of Government.

William Bernstein's The Four Pillars of Investing gives investors the tools they need to construct top-returning portfolios without the help of a financial adviser. In a relaxed, nonthreatening style, Dr. Bernstein provides a distinctive blend of market history, investing theory, and behavioral finance, one designed to help every investor become more self-sufficient and make better-informed investment decisions.

Ronald says: "So good I listened twice"
"One of the Best Investing Books I've Read"
    Overall

William Bernstein does a great job laying out the case for passive investing, explaining why it works, how people can get overly enthusiastic in stocks and how bubbles can really pop. His recommendations on Asset Allocation are also spot on for the individual investor. Highly, Highly Recommend and listen to it over and over again.

In this up to the minute account of the current financial crisis, Dan Gross goes step by step through the timeline leading up to the October 2008 bail-out and explains what exactly happened. Using information and statistics only weeks old, he offers a thorough and enlightening analysis of where we all go from here.

Chi-Hung says: "A witty and fun analysis"
"Good Overview of the Mess that is Wall Street"
    Overall

Dan Gross does a good job of outlining what happened up to December 2008. Easy to Follow and really goes to show that we need more regulation in Wall Street. I would recommend.

In December 2008, amidst a world gripped by financial crisis, Bernard Madoff, a respected fund manager, and former chairman of NASDAQ, was arrested by the FBI for reportedly bilking thousands of trusting investors out of $50 billion. In the first comprehensive account of this financial mastermind's epic Ponzi scheme,Catastrophe exposes the real story behind Madoff's upstanding fa├žade-his family's involvement, and his unlikely rise and incredible crash.

Michael says: "Like Madoff book is a rip off"
    "Published Too Soon"
    Overall

This book was published too soon. I was also disappointed that they referenced so many internet and blog comments. I was looking more for facts and insights into why Madoff did this horrific scam. Wanted to know how it worked and how he pressured his feeder funds. Felt I got more out of the one hour Frontline program than this book. Would not recommend.

    Overall

I bought this book believing that it would help shed some light on where I should hold my retirement assets and how best to maximize my retirement savings from a tax standpoint. To my severe displeasure, what I purchased was a two hour advertisement for the author's other books. This audio book did not give details, just where to look. I am throughly disappointed that Audible would have a book like this on it's catalog of great investment audio books.

When Jack Bogle speaks, people listen. A leading thinker and visionary who single-handedly transformed the mutual fund business, his name is synonymous with excellence in mutual funds as Warren Buffett's is with excellence in stock investing. This eye-opening work examines the fundamentals of mutual fund investing and shows investors how to revolutionize their portfolios by embracing simplicity and then avoiding industry pitfalls.

Gary says: "Directionally correct, but outdated"
    "Diehard Convert"
    Overall

John Bogle's words are insightful, honest, and life changing if you take them to heart. I fully recommend this book if you want to learn how the real mutual fund industry works and how low costs, low turn-over and the act of long term investing will make you more successful than most your friends or neighbors.
