These books always keep you on the edge of your seat and is a real page turner. You really hate to stop listening. The characters are people you can relate to.
Jo, Cork's wife. She really kept it together through all the story
A kidnapping wth a twist
I have read the previous two and can't wait to get into the others
No, not really. This story wasn't what I expected and couldn;t wait for it to end.
In last place
I listen to anything he reads.
I am sure for others it is but for me not all that exciting
Ever notice about reviews that the first 6 or seven depicts the book and narration as the worst I have ever listen to! Get past those and the reviews are in line with what the MAJORITY feels. Yes the novel is loooooong and very convoluted but this is the way the South was back in the 60's. A lot of the internal stories could have been shortened and the ending was one of the most bizarre I have come across, until I found out this was the first of three. I have heard far worst readers than Ledoux so don't let that scare you away because of other reviewers. I did have some trouble at times with his switching back and forth between men and women but it wasn't to bad. Overall the story was well written and did keep my interest where I will listen to the next ones.
Not on the edge but interested
Not the best but not the worst. I would have chosen a different narrator like Hill or Brick
David Baldacci has a hit with this one. Like I said like Jack but with alot more resources.Gives you a good idea what goes on behind the scenes in govt sinister doings.
I like the way they work together. I don't usually like multiple readers but this duo hits it off well
After reading the reviews by all the so-called literary masterminds, the reader Buck Schirner wasn't as bad as I thought. Like most series where you have the same reader over and over then suddenly the publisher, not necessarily the author, makes a change. We are always disappointed at first and complain "Why did they do this!" Over the years there have been complete disappointments in my opinion on reader changes, but in this case it wasn't really to bad. Buck's deep voice in some situations was a bit strong, but his other characters came through flawlessly. Everyone has their favorites, like mine are Scott Brick, which alot of people don't like, and Dick Hill which can't narrate a bad book. There are many others I like but these two are my favorite. Give Buck a chance since he reads the rest of the series and this series is very good. This particular novel gives alot of background on Henry Meloux and where his life has evolved from. I have to say there wasn't anything sinister in the story line but it was a very good read.
The previous ones were much better but this one is still very good
I have read other novels narrated by Buck and I consider him in my top 10 readers
never been able to sit and finish in one sitting
Only people who own dogs could appreciate what goes through Chet's ever changing mind. We really do want to know what goes in their little pea brains sometimes and even if the story isn't as strong as people would like it is really enjoyable. This is a book that makes you laugh out loud at times and the story line is pretty good, but that's not the point. Books should be enjoyed on your interest in the book and not on others. I have read/listen to many books that got terrible reviews and completely enjoyed them while others that got rave reviews were completely, utterly awful! So to each their own. This is a very good series, just don't get too serious about it.
Chet of course! Brilliant mind, ever calculating. Wait! That is really Bernie.
I have always thought his reading of any novel was very good.
Exciting, Story, Characters
All of them were very unique
He did an excellent job on all of them
This was a great beginning to a series. Highly recommend you read the books in succession so you don't get lost.
The story line was a bit weak compared to her other books
I have read all of her novels and I have to say they have been decling in interest over the past several ones.
I just can't figure why after using David Collaci for ALL of her previous novels they have to change. His narration was OK but Collaci IS Brunnetti
After enjoying all of the previous novels the last few have been kind of disappointing but not a throw away. Just nt the page turner you would like.
The characters especially Chet
Chet of course! I have dogs and he reminds me of what is going on in the mind of one of mine, QPJ
Probably, just can't remember which ones
Having had dogs for many years this series makes me wonder what goes through the minds of my mutts. Chet has the personality that you would hope your own dog would have. His "flighty" moments is hilarious and typical of my dogs. Great read and a pretty good story.
Less technical. Characters started to deterioate and less interesting
I liked his narration and would listen to other books by him
Most of them
I really liked the first one and the second edition was pretty good, but the third was real disappointing. The characters became too technical and less interesting. It was a the point you really didn't care what happened to them. I could only get through half the book before I gave up. I know I should have finished it to make a good judgement but it was too brutal! I think the author should have "dumbed" it down a bit to keep the reader interested. They spent more time hiding out than trying to find the real truth to the mystery of the two ships.
