I would warn my friends away from this book. I always enjoy a fictional autobiography, but this book took interesting people and creative genius and turned into a mundane melodrama.
Narration was fine. Maybe a tad shrill.
A movie about Scott and Zelda bickering? No thanks.
Loved everything about this book. Great story and characters. If I could give Hope Davis more than five stars for her performance I would.
I think I was expecting this book to be a little bit weirder and maybe funnier, instead it is a very earnest, prim account of Mrs. Tom Thumb - at times an interesting snapshot of the era, but it left me wanting more.
I loved this book-probably one of my all time favorites. For whatever reason, I have listened to many of the polygamist themed books (The 19th Wife, Under the Banner of Heaven) and this is far and away the best. It is an affectionate look at a family, while unconventional, completely human and flawed, but not evil. Moving and emotional.
I listen to a wide variety of books. I loved The Help, The Hunger Games, The Golden Compass. I listen to Dickens, Jane Austen and Larry McMurtry. I would have to place The Passage in my top ten of all time favorites. After reading all the negative reviews, I entered with trepidation, but I was hooked from the start - loved the story and the pace. My interest never lagged. For the record, I think the Stieg Larsson books are overrated.
I usually like Nick Hornby's writing better than his stories, but in Juliet, Naked, they both come together for a satisfying book. The plot will resonate with anyone who has been or has lived with a rabid fan. Fun, sweet and thoughtful.
It's been a long time since I read a Stephen King book. I am more of a historical fiction kind of gal, but once I started listening to this, I was so hooked. A book this long usually can take me a couple of months to get through (my commute isn't that long), but I zipped through this one. Exciting, great characters, tight plot and a satisfying end. Don't miss it.
I usually don't listen to books quite this "feminine"-I mostly listen to politcal/historical stuff, but I loved this book, I couldn't get enough. I would drive anywhere just to listen and then sit in the driveway and listen some more. Riveting, thought provoking and moving.
The perfect book to listen to - strong plot and strong characters. Maybe not great literature, but really, really fun.
I listened to about 3/4's of this book before finally giving up - the plot is non-existent and the characters are wooden at best. I listen to a lot of historical fiction and this is the bottom of the barrel.
