Justin and Libby Denbe have the kind of life you’d find in the pages of a glossy magazine: A beautiful 14-year-old daughter. A gorgeous brownstone on a tree-lined street in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood. A great marriage, admired by all. A perfect life. When investigator Tessa Leone arrives at the crime scene in the foyer of the Denbes’ home, she finds scuff marks on the floor and a million tiny pieces of bright green Taser confetti. The family appears to have been abducted.

Ken Foster never intended to adopt an abandoned dog. But after bringing Brando home, he notices how many homeless strays there are in the city. Suddenly, he sees them everywhere and finds himself unable to resist taking them home. But what he gains from them in return is far richer than his own expense.

I was captured by the cover photo of this book and the title too. The author lets you into his life and the part of his heart he holds for his beloved dogs. There ought to be more folks in the world like this guy. There are angels among us and I think Ken Foster is one. He steps up and makes things better for those innocent pups that have no voice of their own. I thought the book ended rather abruptly, but I enjoyed it all the way through.

This is a book for the enlightened dog owners - a groundbreaking, "whole-dog" approach to raising a puppy, from the halls of one of the most prestigious and pioneering veterinary schools in the world. Nowhere else will readers find this whole-dog approach, a unique combination of training, behavior, and health care.

    Overall

I expected this to be all "puppy talk" but it was so much more. It truely gives insight to why dogs do the things they do and how they read us and the things we do. I've been a dog lover for decades and shared my home with dogs most of my life, but still learned a lot from this book. It's full of useful information for anyone who lives with, works with, or just loves dogs - of any age. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

  • How We Die: Reflections on Life's Final Chapter

There is a vast literature on death and dying, but there are few reliable accounts of the ways in which we die. The intimate account of how various diseases take away life, offered in How We Die, is not meant to prompt horror or terror but to demythologize the process of dying, to help us rid ourselves of that fear of the terra incognita.

Ruth says: "Required reading for those still breathing"
    "A very special read"
    Overall

I have a difficult time dealing with loss and didn't expect to like this book because I thought it would just be too sad; but I did enjoy it. Very different than what I was expecting. Helpful to anyone. A must-read for health care professionals.
