From the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and author of the essay collection Shiksa Goddess, comes a dazzling debut novel, a comedy about New York's urban gentry living in a post-9/11 world, the arbiters of fashion and the doyennes of charity balls; about the rich and the nouveau rich(er), the glamorous and the desperate-to-be.

Crypto says: "I love the book!"

BORING! Blah, blah, blah. Could not wait for it to end. Dry writing style and short choppy setences. Didn't care for the "brand placement". Should have know by the title...

When the spirit of Lara's great-aunt Sadie - a feisty, demanding girl with firm ideas about fashion, love, and the right way to dance - mysteriously appears, she has one last request: Lara must find a missing necklace that had been in Sadie's possession for more than 75 years, and Sadie cannot rest without it. Lara, on the other hand, has a number of ongoing distractions.

OK, not nearly as good her other books. I guess I am tired of hours of confusion and running around in circles when a one minute conversation would correct to entire situation, but then there would be no need for this book. Hmmmm. Will continue to eagerly await SK books!

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

Jan says: "What a great surprise!"

In the spring of 1974, Calliope Stephanides, a student at a girls' school in Grosse Pointe, finds herself drawn to a chain-smoking, strawberry-blonde classmate with a gift for acting. The passion that furtively develops between them - along with Callie's failure to develop physically - leads Callie to suspect that she is not like other girls. In fact, she is not really a girl at all.

When a new highway threatens to bypass the town of Rossmore and cut through Whitethorn Woods, everyone has a passionate opinion about whether the town will benefit or suffer. But young Father Flynn is most concerned with the fate of St. Ann's Well, which is set at the edge of the woods and slated for destruction. People have been coming to St. Ann's for generations to share their dreams and fears, and speak their prayers.

Claire says: "Not up to par for Binchy"

Defiantly not her normal style! First couples of chapters were very difficult to get through. But I persevered and finished. Was so excited to have a new, great Maeve Binchy read… was somewhat disappointed with the style. Lots of different characters and nothing really jelled. Good read, not great.
