"Weaving together fact and fiction"
A fascinating idea -- take a well known historical figure and a current public obsession with the supernatural, and weave together to form a novel. What drove Lincoln? Why was he so anti slavery? Why was he assassinated?
Vampires.
An interesting historical fiction - with an emphasis on both "history" AND "fiction" !
"Fascinating !"
Bugliosi is as good as a storyteller as he is prosecutor.
Almost everyone knows the story about Manson and the "Tate murders" but I would guess that few know *all* the facts - the gruesome, unbelievable facts. Bugliosi starts at the beginning and takes the reader/ listener through the murders, the "Family", pre-trial motions, discovery, evidence, witnesses, drugs, orgies, and, of course, the man, the myth - Manson ... including his past, his motivations, and the strange but very powerful hold he held on young people -- particularly young women.
It's a truth-really-is-stranger-than-fiction read.
And you won't be able to put it down or stop talking about it!
"Grisham at his best!"
Entertaining story, top notch narration, and subtle and not-so-subtle jabs at our legal system. A great listen !
"Boring."
I bought this while I was pregnant and power walking often.
It was boring, predictable, annoying, and "sanctimommious"
"Kept me listening !"
Similar to THG in that it's a dystopian novel, but a totally different story.
Love an interesting plot with a strong female protagonist who yes, may have a love interest, but isn't defined by him.
(and it's YA fiction, but don't let that stop you!)
As soon as I finished the second, I came to audible to download the third... and learned it isn't out yet. Please hurry, Ms. Roth !
"Interesting story with likeable characters"

"I really *wanted* to like this..."
I loved "Middlesex." In fact, I think it's the best audiobook I've ever "read." I really, really wanted to like Eugenides' new book.
I didn't.
The story seemed interesting, but nothing really _happens_. The first part of the book, where the author discusses the literary crazes of the 1980s was above my head, and I'm fairly well educated. I just don't care about "Of Grammatology" (or maybe I'm just not that smart ;)).
The characters were unlikeable and the story was boring. I kept waiting for something to happen but nothing ever did.
"Smart, sexy, witty"
It's hard to write this review without spoilers, so I'll keep it really short.
About halfway through you will stop whatever you are doing, widen your eyes, and wonder if you really heard that.
Amazing. A not-to-miss!
"A real 'page turner' !"
Like everyone else in the world, I heard the hype about Flynn's "Gone Girl" and had to listen. It did not disappoint. After listening to her smart and witty writing, I knew I had to listen to her other books. "Dark Places" was a great read. It's a dark story and it's a sad story, but Flynn's storytelling will keep you listening. I would come home from a run and keep in my ear buds, needing to know what happened next. It's a modern whodunnit that takes the reader back and forth from the night of the murders to the present day. Three storytellers alternate, and little by little, the story comes together. Great writing, great story, complex characters. Flynn is amazing !
"Heartbreaking and Beautiful"
Beautiful, heartbreaking, raw, smart, funny, sexy.
I've listened to dozens of audiobooks, and this is easily one of the best.
Buy, download, listen, laugh, sigh, cry, laugh, cry, cry, smile, sigh, smile, and do it again, because you'll want to listen to this at least once.
