The only serious criticism I have is that the author keeps saying that Ike was smart, or did things in a skillful manner, but rarely explains what those things were or how Ike did it. We are told that Ike worked really hard, sometimes driving himself to exhaustion. Just what was he doing in all those long hours?

I suppose it might be better in paper form, where you can skip around to find whatever nuggets of information are useful to you. But as an audio book it's just pointless.

The book was fascinating. An interesting description of a little known (in the west) period of chinese history.

Almost anyone, I think. Ms. Lin puts a heavy, portentous emphasis on almost every other word. It's intolerable, and it makes the book pretty much unlistenable. The READING DESTROYS all PLEASURE in the BOOK. You get the point.

The book is a bunch of "real world" stories. Some show moderately innovative thinking. In others the solutions are so mundane it's hard to believe anyone thought they were worth writing about. In any case, none of them involve the quick thinking, innovative, found- objects approach that characterized the TV character. Macgyver wouldn't do any of these things. Don't waste your time on this one.
