This is the first in a series featuring police offer, Harry Hole (pronouced Harry Hula, although Robin Sachs English pronouciation leaves it as Hole) this complex tale switches between World War II on the Eastern Front in the 1940's and present day weaving together a tale of revenge and corruption that will leave you guessing until the end. Stay with the series, Nemesis, book 2 is awesome.

My only thought is that Karin Slaughter wrote this after more than a few drinks at a dinner party where conjoined twins were the topic of conversation. Perhaps this could have been an interesting concept for a story, but this falls short of the high caliber of work that Karin Slaughter is known and highly respected for. This 'short story' is lacking at every level and is not recommended!

I have been an avid Stuart Woods reader, but Chiefs is now a favorite of mine. Set in Georgia and spanning over 6 decades, Stuart Woods follows the founders of a small Southern town and its' Police Chiefs through the struggles associated with the Civil Rights movement and of course a serial killer who flies under the radar - well written and narrated.

A few years ago, I had become disappointed in the Kay Scarpetta series and had actually started to dislike the characters. That being said perhaps that is Cornwall’s real talent; to truly keep characters evolving and sometimes not in a pleasant way. Nevertheless, I instantly downloaded Red Mist, pushing other novels in the queue quickly aside!
This novel, Red Mist and the two prior to it - Scarpetta and the Scarpetta Factor really have the feel of the Scarpetta novels from the beginning of the series. Fraught with tension and unforeseen twists and turns that keep you listening long after you should have turned the lights out for the evening. Kate Burton does a good job with the narration; I like the continuity of having the same narrator for a series.
This is a thriller that does not disappoint - highly recommended.

Lee Child takes us back to 1997 to visit Jack Reacher's life at the end of his Army career as an MP. Sent undercover to investigate a murder in a Southern town, where an Army base is located, things get complicated very quickly as they so often do for Jack Reacher.

The plot has some great characters, suspensful twists and turns and even a romantic theme (in the couple of other Reacher books I have read, I had never known him to even share a kiss previously) so this book really has it all. As a reader I was was kept guessing until the end.

It is great to have the continuity of Dick Hill as the narrator, he is really great, but I thought maybe he sounded a little older than Jack Reacher was in this novel (as it is a prequel), other than that Dick Hill is fabulous. I am definitely hooked on Lee Child's Reacher - having only read a couple of the other books in the series The Affair really brings some clarity to why Reacher is the way he is.

ALERT: Keep listening past the final credits to hear a short story that gives the reader a glimse into the adolesent Reacher - another great story!

Jo Nesbo can certainly weave a complex tale in his thriller series featuring police offer Harry Hole. I love the narrator Thor Knai who is much better than the choice that was made for the 1st, 3rd and 4th books narrator. Interestingly the lead Character Harry Hole (pronounced Harry Hula) name is then mispronounced by the English narrator in the other books. I much prefer the european accented Thor Knai. Nevertheless, Nesbo is a great author who has developed a complex and not always likeable character in Harry Hole. His plots will definitely keep you guessing.

I purchased this book during the 1st in a Series Sale. Its so great to discover a new author and lead characters - Christopher Reich and his character, Dr. Johnathon Ransom are no exception. The narration is also great - to date I haven't experienced a narrator who could master so many different accents and dialects. This book is a good thriller that kept me guessing and wanting to download the next in the series immediately - spoler alert - don't read the reviews for Rules of Vengence if you don't want to have any of the plot twists exposed!

This book was wonderful - heartbreaking and beautiful. I wasn't sure that the subject matter of a women diagonized with alzheimers was going to be something I would enjoy, but it actually moved me to tears more than once. The fact that the book is written from the viewpoint of the afflicted provides a new dimension and perspective to this dreadful disease. The book was recorded by the author and she does a good job. Highly recommended.

I loved World without End and started it right after Pillars of the Earth. I found the first couple of chapters were not as engaging as Pillars, but stick with it - if you loved Pillars of the Earth, you will love this also. If you enjoy historical novels and/or epic tales, this book is for you. I am going to move on to some of Follets other novels now, as I like his style, attention to detail and the way he can really bring his characters and scenes to life. Highly recommended!

Kept putting off reading Pillars as the premise just didn't appeal to me. Was I wrong, this book was so awesome, many people have said to me it is the best book they have ever read and I would definitely agree. The characters are diverse and have great depth. I even found the building elements really complemented the story, but especially enjoyed the descriptions of what life was really like in that time. I didn't want this book to end and was glad that I didn't have to wait 10 years for the sequel (if I had read Pillars when it was first released) which is also awesome! Highly recommended!
