"I will check out this author..good interview"
This author was very forthcoming and interesting. I want to read his book after listening to the interview.
"Tolstoy a great thinker and observer"
I think this author was an amazing thinker in his time. I should say he was ahead of his time. He writes this story as if he was there or this telling were part of his experience.
He nails the thinking of the characters as one who might have know them. I felt bad about the horse in the end.
The foolishness and the arrogance of the man in charge does not escape my own thoughts about some of the people I have met, not willing to listen to reason. It was amazing to see someone who was living in such an environment and should have understood the danger, but so full of himself that he ignored all the tell tale signs. He did vindicate his main character in the end in a very dramatic way. Tolstoy, one of the best writers ever.
"Rankin's great"
This story gets out there rightaway, and you are into it up to your neck. Everything is fast-moving as usual with Rebus sometimes annoying, as his general character is meant to be. I was right with this reading from begining to end. couldn't put the book down(so to speak).
The narrator is excellent and the surprise but very interesting ending had you guessing all the time. Highly recommended reading. I would love to talk with this author, he must be a hoot!
"Good story, confusing beginning"
The beginning of this story was really screwy. I had to keep backing it up to figure out what was going on. The split between each stage setting narrative was not smooth, and I had trouble keeping the characters sorted out in the beginning. After that point the story unfolded pretty well, but I was looking for more to the whole story. The plot would have been much better if the killer would have seemed more realistic to me. I couldn't figure out how to respond to him.
The rest of the story was very good, and I especially liked how the writer handled the little girl and the people around her.
"Another great book"
This book presents very good facts that I would have done research forever to find. The information here is absolutely mind bending and you can really see how the real facts can and have been distorted especially by religion to control and keep people in line. It saddens me to think that foreward thinking people of the past have been burned at the stake just for questioning their interpretation of the things that lay before them. It is an amazing thing to look at all the evidence and wonder what calamity befell the earth and how old we really are. Very good read and he did his homework, and it really is up to us how we sum the information up. I am sorry to see he has hooked up with some questionable conspiracy theorists that make his hard work seem out of line.
"Not one of Koontz's better books"
This was an interesting story, as I really enjoy most of Dean's offerings. However I thought this one had far more repetitive narrative than I can handle. I buy a book for moving and interesting dialogue and this one did not measure up to his other books, frankly it was driving me up a wall.
I liked the story layout and the conclusion, and it was very well read.
"Liken it to a Harlequin Romance Novel"
I found this novel to be so predictable and almost infantile in some ways, that I got bored and didn't finish the book. I swear I had de-ja-vu, as it seemed like something I had read before. Anyone else think this? The reader was great, but the extreme character presentation was not compelling enough in the storyline to keep my interest.
"Very interesting title...Not enough"
This work was too short. The title had me, but more work in each area would have been more help. I think the reader was great here, but more expansion on each topic would have been more helpful as I was looking for more information, and maybe a 2 hour lecture in this format would have been better. What was there was very good, but I expected more.
"Very, very good fantasy."
I know that a lot of people feel this series of books was written for a younger crowd, but I was interested enough in the content description to read them myself. I was really captivated and the writer kept excellent connect throughout the books, paying attention to detail, and not leaving loose ends anywhere. The descriptions were just right and the story was fast moving and exciting. I really liked this writers imagination, and the narrator is outstanding. For a good read without long dalliances on sex this is your book. I liked the writers sticking on point and moving us all over the world in such a creative way.
I recommend this book and the series to everyone of all ages and background, a total escape that's refreshing.
"Confusing at first"
The is story was fast moving, and interesting.
I found his cohort Detective a little annoying, and a little too much like a TV production character. I understand it is part of the plot and stage setting for the story, but nevertheless, annoying. I have read one of Jim Butchers stories in the past and found him to be a very good writer, that's why I bought this audible book. I believe I will purchase another in this series to get a better feel for his characters, as some of them are compelling enough to read on.
I really like this reader, James Masters, as he pronounces words properly, unlike some of the other readers I've listened to. He is really great and keeps your attention, even during the descriptions which is a plus. I like Him.
His skull friend is a real hoot, and I really laugh out loud when he is present, just waiting to see what he will try or negotiate next. I was laughing so loud that my husband came to the doorway, watching me sew, and when I looked up, asked "what's all the merriment going on here? I think that says it all, as he is a book reader... I often think I have the best of both worlds: the written word read by a great reader who makes the book perhaps more delightful.
Just because I was not quite into the drift of the book at first, and had to work on pulling the characters together is the only reason I did not give it full marks. My husband is an outright fan of Jim Butcher has told me that I will be totally in the groove in the next book. I think he is right, as I did like this one very much.
"Mr. Doyle has done it again"
This is a short story, and hence a great one to listen to with my grand children.
His stories are always fast moving and interesting.
This reader is really great in inflection and and sound. Great voice!
Can a precious stone really be called a Carbuncle?
I have always admired his writing, but for some reason missed this book. Very glad Audible offered it, and this was a good time of year to get it. Thanks
