Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I will need to listen to this again. It is likely that I have watched too much TV and heard Peter Thomas too often on NOVA and Forensic Files. His voice just kept taking me back to those programs and not into the

    Yes

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The Narrator is truly gifted but perhaps his voice is too well known from other work.

In search of adventure, 29-year-old Conor Grennan traded his day job for a year-long trip around the globe, a journey that began with a three-month stint volunteering at the Little Princes Children's Home, an orphanage in war-torn Nepal. Conor was initially reluctant to volunteer, unsure whether he had the proper skill, or enough passion, to get involved in a developing country in the middle of a civil war. But he was soon overcome by the herd of rambunctious, resilient children.

I picked this book because of the high reviews from others. I need my audio books to keep my attention or I feel like I wasted my $. This did not disappoint! I loved listening to it. It was in combination funny, educational, honest, inspirational and thought provoking. It was also a love story. How do you get all of that in one non-fiction book? If you like to learn about other cultures, have a heart for doing right in the world and get inspired by others who do so, I recommend this. I found myself more enthralled by this than the previously inspiring "Three Cups..." which I also enjoyed. "Three" did not keep me as captivated as "Princes." I loved that the author read this as his passion and humor came through. I predict many awards for this one!

In many ways, Carrie Parker is like any other eight-year-old: playing make-believe, dreading school, dreaming of faraway places. But even her imaginative mind can't shut out the realities of her impoverished North Carolina home or help her protect her younger sister, Emma.

I found this book very touching. It was easy to imagine the scenes that the reader describes. I too was surprised by the ending and made me think more about how well I was engrossed in Carrie's life. I am curious about the age of the reader. Is she an adult with a young voice or a child that is beyond her years? I could see a sequel to this...Great job author, reader and producer!

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

    Overall

I absolutely LOVED this book and am so very sorry that it is over! It was like watching a captivating movie where the images were not on a screen but instead colorful and dancing in my mind's eye. The writing and narration allowed me to take part in the story in a new way. I was mesmerized. I found myself rooting for some characters and scowling at others. The narrators made it easy to distinguish between characters and their reading provided a richness of sound and accent to the writing. I laughed, I cried, I shook my head, cursed and celebrated. As a white woman, I felt shame for my own race and how we have behaved and in some cases continue to. I felt like I knew the characters better than any other book I have listened to. I hope the writers and readers win many awards and are recognized over and over again for this incredible work of art. I am truly grateful!

In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, set in 12th-century England. Readers and listeners ever since have hoped for a sequel. At last, here it is. Although the two novels may be listened to in any order, World Without End also takes place in Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building their exquisite Gothic cathedral. The cathedral is again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge.

    "More Please!"
    Overall

Are both of these books really over? Did I just listen to 85+ hours of wonderful narrative that has now ended? The reader deserves every bit of recognition that one could think of to bestow upon him. Oh my. I am sad. I loved both this one and Pillars. I loved where they both took me, I loved what I learned, enjoyed every word of the journey. I hope the author will write more. I want more....now.....please?

Why we think it’s a great listen: Got 40 hours to kill? You’ll find the time when you start listening to Lee’s take on Follett’s epic – and widely celebrated – novel of 12th-century England. The Pillars of the Earth tells the story of Philip, prior of Kingsbridge, a devout and resourceful monk driven to build the greatest Gothic cathedral the world has known...of Tom, the mason who becomes his architect - a man divided in his soul...and of the beautiful, elusive Lady Aliena, haunted by a secret shame....

Joseph says: "Good historical setting, but loose story."
    "The Perfect Audio Book"
    Overall

What a wonderful audio book to get lost in. Whether walking, hiking, doing house work or driving, this book was a wonderful escape from the day and a magnificent journey to be a part of. I enjoyed every word and the was sorry for the many hours to end. This author taught me about history, buildings and old England and I didn't even realize I was learning until after the story ended. It gave me new appreciation for that period in history and the hardships people encountered. I do wish my children could enjoy it, but cannot recommend it due to the graphic violence. Thank you for such a wonderful book. I am almost finished the sequel and wish there were more hours to enjoy.
