I really enjoyed these books, all of them. I live with a brilliant, loyal, lovable Australian Shepherd who is very much a part of my family. So I really enjoyed Chet's look at things. He knows more than most dogs would but he knows it in a very dog way.

If you love dogs and an alternate take on a story? This is great. It's really fun. It made me happy.

But if you don't love animals? There really isn't that much story here.

I could not stop listening, even when I wanted to. The book has several twists and turns and not all the characters are really rooting characters. I'm not sure any of them are. The psychological twists and turns and trying to decide how I felt about the characters made it a really compelling book for me. However, if you need a rooting interest in your book, this one is not for you.

Because of the narative structure of the book, having two clear distinct voices for the two protagonists, really was a nice touch. I liked it.

It isn't the best of the Ladies Detective series. Alexander McCall Smith has so many characters in this series that somebody is always getting short changed. But it is nice to spend a few hours with these characters and their small problems.

If you love the characters in this series, then you'll enjoy this. But if previous entries in this series have started to bore or frustrate you, this isn't any different.

This series have lovely characters.

Lisette Lecat is wonderful. She is an asset for the series. She doesn't do much in the way of character voices but she conveys so vividly the character's genuine affection for their country. She is a joy to listen to.

I enjoyed it. I did. It isn't as funny or as pointed as Lamb. It is more like Fool, but I preferred Fool to this. I have a minor in art history and so this book was very much playing into my interests, still, I thought it could have been much funnier.

The narration was good.

And I only just realized that there is a PDF file that includes many of the artworks discussed in the audiobook. Don't forget to download that.

This was a departure for Grisham. It was more like A Painted House than the legal thrillers. I enjoyed it for what it was. But it is for lovers of sports, not for fans of legal thrillers. I would think that somebody who didn't enjoy baseball would find it extremely tedious.

I rarely listen to books a second and third time so I doubt I would this one either.

I like that they gave Petra more to do in this book than she has in the others. It was nice to see a different more complex side of Peter as well. Clearly Bean and Carlotta were important and I liked them but I felt like I knew them already but Petra and Peter really get some movement here and I like that.

The audio transfer as a whole could have been better but most especially the looping. It was clear that the narrator did not know how to pronounce hegemon so most of the times it is said in the book it is looped in afterwards. Sometimes, however, it is not and the world is pronounced with a hard g. Either way it takes you a little bit out of the story.

It doesn't make the book a bad listen but it is a bit of an annoyance.

This is the only book in the series with this problem.

I would. I can't say I like it better than Ender's game, however, I appreciate seeing a different take on the same story. It fleshes out certain events and characters. I liked learning more about Bean.
