For more than 300 years, Bluff House has sat above Whiskey Beach, guarding its shore - and its secrets. But to Eli Landon, it’s home.… A Boston lawyer, Eli has weathered an intense year of public scrutiny and police investigations after being accused of - but never arrested for - the murder of his soon-to-be-ex wife. He finds sanctuary at Bluff House, even though his beloved grandmother is in Boston recuperating from a nasty fall. Abra Walsh is always there, though.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I'm not sure who would like this book more. I love Nora Roberts and this is the first one of her novels that I couldn't wait to end. Usually I can't put her books down but this one never really grabbed me.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I'm not sure yet but probably a romance because those are my favorite.

Did Peter Berkrot do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

He did an okay job. All the women sounded weird but I think that's because it was a man trying to do women's voices.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Nothing, that's the problem.

    Any additional comments?

I really hope this book was a fluke for Ms. Roberts because prior to this I never read one of her books that I didn't love. I read the reviews before buying this but I thought people must be wrong since I don't always agree with reviews.

Daughter of a cold, controlling mother and an anonymous donor, studious, obedient Elizabeth finally let loose one night, drinking too much at a nightclub and allowing a strange man’s seductive Russian accent to lure her to a house on Lake Shore Drive. The events that followed changed her life forever. Twelve years later, the woman now known as Abigail Lowery lives alone on the outskirts of a small town in the Ozarks. A freelance programmer, she works at home designing sophisticated security systems.

What made the experience of listening to The Witness the most enjoyable?

The narrator was terrific. She made this great story even better.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Witness?

The most memorable moment for me was when Elizabeth escaped from the safe house only to watch it blow up moments later. I literally gasped out loud.

Which character – as performed by Julia Whelan – was your favorite?

Of course Abigail/Elizabeth was my favorite character. The wonderful thing about the narrator was that she was able to differentiate her voices for all the characters so at times it felt like multiple actors reading the dialog. The first book I listened to was a terrible disappointment and I thought maybe Audible wasn't for me but they let me return that book and I'm so glad I did. What a totally different experience this was. I'm sad the book is finished!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I had a very strong reaction when the two dirty marshals ruined Elizabeth's birthday. Without ruining the story for anyone, I cried at this point and had to remind myself that it was a romance novel so it would turn out ok in the end.
